Knowledge for the world of tomorrow.
In order for our society to transition the mobility sector and energy grid to renewable energies, the industry needs to produce battery cells on a terawatt scale. Manufacturing is at the forefront of this revolution to reduce scrap rates, accelerate ramp-ups of new production lines and shorten feedback loops to optimize processes more quickly.
At Siemens, we build manufacturing from the ground up: from automation controls to large scale distributed systems and analytics which are fundamentally changing the way that batteries are being produced. And we mean fundamentally: our work will cut production times in half and save at least 5 percentage points of scrap for powerful Gigafactories.
Join us to work on the next generation of integrated electronics, event stream processing and AI. You will be a part of the Battery Accelerator, an organization of multiple internal start-ups which self-responsibly engage with cell manufacturers worldwide, develop and implement pilots, and take complete ownership of their products.
As Senior R&D Engineer (f/m/d) in our internal start-up Fast Judge you will work in a dynamic, customer-centric team of engineers and business explorers that focuses on battery cell quality inspection. Your contribution will guide our start-up to ship its products to some of the largest Gigafactories in the world.
Your future challenges
- You assess the feasibility of new businesses in battery cell quality inspection by processing your ideas and external start-ups through our Innovation Framework
- Together with customers, you integrate and prove innovative quality inspection technology at laboratory scale, pilot lines and series production
- You will be planning, conducting and evaluating experiments on batteries and battery cells, including design, set-up and testing, in our battery laboratory in Erlangen.
- From conceptualization, via development of measurement techniques, algorithms, and data streams, first lab tests, economic feasibility studies, customer discovery and proof of concept until final product definition, the support of the complete product development process, is your tasks
Your profile
Make your mark in our exciting world at Siemens.
As an equal-opportunity employer we are happy to consider applications from individuals with disabilities.
- You have an excellent university degree (Master / Diploma) in electrical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or other relevant studies and you have many years professional experiences. Ideally you graduated battery cell related with Ph.D
- Within at least five years professional experience in the battery cell industry, you have shown to be able to transfer R&D into products / production
- Having worked as a process engineer or development engineer in industrial battery cell production you have detailed knowledge of production processes with comprehensive hands-on experience
- You are experienced with modeling, simulating and testing of electrochemical energy storage
- You are able to communicate confidently in English; good German is a plus
