Senior Customs Strategist

The corporate Customs team is responsible for (i) assessing, monitoring, proactively mitigating, and reporting on Siemens’ Customs and Border Protection (CBP) risks, and (ii) establishing and implementing the strategy across US business units. 

This position on the US Customs team is integral to the success of the Siemens Customs compliance program. This individual is responsible for providing customs regulatory guidance and internal requirements, optimally and efficiently, to the operational business. They must be able to balance tactical and strategic objectives, effectively communicate with Customs team members, and help Siemens US meet its obligations under the Siemens Internal Control Program, including providing advice, consulting, training, and strategic guidance.

We are looking for a Senior Customs Strategist to report directly to the Head of Customs. This position will be fully remote within the US.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Stay Ahead of Change: Monitor evolving global trade regulations (e.g., Section 232, 301, USMCA, UFLPA) and assess their impact on operations. Play a key role in risk assessments and help shape proactive compliance initiatives.
  • Collaborate across Functions: Partner with legal, supply chain, logistics, procurement, and finance to ensure cohesive and strategic alignment. Deliver insights to senior leadership through clear presentations. 
  • Champion Innovation: Identify process gaps and lead transformation initiatives using automation and digital tools to boost efficiency, transparency, and compliance.  
  • Lead & Mentor: Empower junior staff and build customs expertise across the organization through mentorship and knowledge sharing.
  • Influence the Industry: Represent the company in trade associations, industry forums, and with government stakeholders--help shape the future of trade policy. 

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications: 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • BS/BA Degree 
  • 10+ years of experience in global trade compliance, with specific expertise in U.S. customs regulations and compliance practices.
  • 10+ years of experience of demonstrated knowledge of US import laws and regulations, and the ability to interpret regulatory information into strategic objectives and guidance.
  • 10 + years of experience with a deep understanding of CBP regulatory framework, including customs valuation rules, tariffs, and audit procedures.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%.
  • Authorized to work in the United Sates without the need of sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Licensed Customs Broker.
  • JD or MBA.
  • Experience working with, or for, a law firm, accounting firm, or customs broker in International Trade Compliance.
  • Strong business process orientation, with the ability to participate in best practice reviews with an eye toward process simplification and business fit. 
  • Good ability to identify and adapt best practices from other organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders across functions to integrate trade compliance considerations into broader business strategies
  • Strong executive communication and writing skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to leverage efforts through effective involvement of individuals and resources from outside the immediate team and motivation to push projects through to solution and implementation.

You’ll benefit from: 

  • The pay range for this position is $115,668-$198,288, and the annual incentive target is 20% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.

The pay range for this position is $115,668 - $198,288 annually with a target incentive of 20% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
