Low & Medium Voltage (LV/MV) Field Service Engineering Development Program (January 2026 Cohort)
Program Overview:
Are you a student graduating between December 2025 and May 2026 with an associate or bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical power, instrumentation, or similar program? Launch your career with Siemens as a field service engineer supporting our Low Voltage (LV) and Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear and distribution systems. Join our LV/MV Field Service Engineering Development Program and gain hands-on expertise in one of the industry's most critical areas.
The LV/MV Field Service Engineering Development Program positions you as an integral member of Siemens Industry, Inc.'s Smart Infrastructure – Electrification & Automation (E&A) team. This one-year development program features a structured learning pathway combining classroom training with extensive field experience across the United States, exposing you to both voltage classes and their diverse applications.
Role Description:
Phase 1 – Online and Classroom Onboarding and Product Familiarization (1 month):
- Extensive Environmental, Health and, Safety (EHS) online and in person training
- Structured training at SI EA Wendell, NC headquarters led by Power Academy
- Safety certifications and equipment fundamentals for both LV and MV systems
Phase 2 – Introductory Field Experience (2 months):
- Travel across the U.S. supporting field service operations
- Shadow experienced field service engineers on customer sites
- Hands-on experience with LV and MV switchgear installation, commissioning, and maintenance
- Real-world exposure to utility, industrial, and commercial applications
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, test, and commission LV and MV switchgear systems
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on both voltage classes
- Troubleshoot equipment issues in customer environments
- Provide technical support to customers across diverse industries
- Document work and maintain comprehensive service records
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards (NFPA 70E, OSHA)
- Support equipment diagnostics and performance optimization
- Assist with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
- Participate in equipment commissioning and startup activities
Phase 3 - Online and Classroom Product Training and Soft Skills Training (1 month):
- Focus on switchgear design, operation, and maintenance
- Circuit breaker technology and maintenance procedures
- Power distribution optimization across voltage classes
- Load management and protection coordination
- Equipment lifecycle management
- Maintenance best practices and predictive diagnostics
- Introduction to Siemens relays
Phase 4 – Field Training and Demonstration of learned skills (3 months)
- Travel across the U.S. supporting field service operations
- Shadow experienced field service engineers on customer sites
- Hands-on experience with LV and MV switchgear installation, commissioning, and maintenance
- Real-world exposure to utility, industrial, and commercial applications
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, test, and commission LV and MV switchgear systems
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on both voltage classes
- Troubleshoot equipment issues in customer environments
- Provide technical support to customers across diverse industries
- Document work and maintain comprehensive service records

Phase 5 - LV/MV Automation & Controls (1 month):
- Focus on control systems and automation across voltage classes
- HMI and RTU integration and troubleshooting
- Communication protocols and networking (Modbus, IEC 61850, DNP3)
- SCADA system integration and commissioning
- Microgrid and distributed energy resource (DER) controls
- System integration and commissioning procedures
- Remote monitoring and diagnostics
Phase 6 – Final Field Training with senior FSE’s (1 month):
- Travel across the U.S. supporting field service operations
- Shadow experienced field service engineers on customer sites
- Hands-on experience with LV and MV switchgear installation, commissioning, and maintenance
- Real-world exposure to utility, industrial, and commercial applications
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, test, and commission LV and MV switchgear systems

Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution, graduating Fall 2025 – Spring 2026
- Passionate about hands-on technical work and problem-solving
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to start full-time employment in January 2026 or June 2026
- Willing to travel up to 80%
- Legally authorized for employment in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
- Valid driver's license and ability to drive to customer sites
- Physical ability to perform field work (climbing, lifting, working at heights with proper safety equipment)
- Ability to obtain and maintain electrical safety certifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience or coursework in power systems and electrical distribution
- Familiarity with electrical safety standards and practices
- Interest in utility or industrial electrical systems
- Basic understanding of control systems or automation
- Previous internship or field experience in electrical engineering

The pay range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
