Position Overview:

We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock, where we design and manufacture state-of-the-art locomotives, passenger coaches, and light rail vehicles that keep communities connected and moving. In this role, you will ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance in our welding and manufacturing processes. What your day may look like:

  • Perform a wide variety of inspections in Carshell welding and BG manufacturing areas.
  • Conduct routine visual inspections (CWI), dimensional checks, and mechanical evaluations on welded and machined components and assemblies following established guidelines.
  • Utilize one or more non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques to verify the quality and acceptability of welded and machined parts.
  • Ensure all work complies with the correct configuration revision and meets applicable drawings, specifications, and standards.
  • Perform first article inspections on parts, assemblies, equipment, and tooling; prepare summary reports and diagnostics as needed.
  • Enter, maintain, and extract data from Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems, noncompliance tracking tools, and configuration management systems.


What will make you thrive in this role:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) performing inspections of increasing complexity. (This role is not for a new graduate of a welding program).
  • Strong knowledge of advanced measuring techniques and ability to apply them in inspection processes.
  • Proven experience interpreting complex dimensional drawings, weld standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following:
    • AWS Certified Visual Weld Inspector Associate
      • OR:
      • VT Level II certification plus certification in one or more of the following Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques:
      • Dye Penetrant (PT)
      • Magnetic Particle (MT)
      • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently required to climb stairs, steps, and ladders
  • Frequently required to work on elevated platforms.
  • Perform work overhead.
  • Occasionally lift and move at most 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

This position in located in Sacramento, CA. The base hourly range for this position is $29.30 - $39.64 per hour plus a 10% shift differential for second shift. This is a second shift position. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
