Siemens EDA is a global technology leader in Electronic Design Automation software. Our software tools enable companies around the world to develop highly innovative electronic products faster and more cost-effectively. Our customers use our tools to push the boundaries of technology and physics to deliver better products in the increasingly complex world of chip, board, and system design.

About the Role :

During your placement, you’ll be working in our Tessent Embedded Analytics division, formerly the UK high-growth start-up UltraSoC. This offers a rare chance to work on pioneering Systems-on-Chip (SoC) technology in a dynamic, start-up-like environment, all within the framework of a world-renowned company.

Systems-on-chip (SoC) products are everywhere, transforming our world. But what happens when they go wrong? How can we detect faulty pixels in autonomous vehicle cameras, security issues in server farms, or performance issues in 5G equipment? Our team designs a portfolio of Embedded Analytics chip designs that customers integrate into their SoCs. These "modules" operate across the entire SoC, reporting rich, real-time, non-intrusive information from both hardware and software. This cross-compatibility provides an efficient way to integrate Intellectual Property (IP) from various companies into one coherent framework.

Our products allow engineers to "look inside" SoCs during development and understand their operation under real-life conditions. These capabilities also enable post-production monitoring, opening the door for a wide range of in-life analytics across industries such as:

  • Network infrastructure
  • 5G telecoms
  • Servers and High-Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Automotive
  • Safety-critical systems
  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Data centres

If you are ready to contribute to innovations that prevent failures and optimise performance in the devices shaping our world, we want to hear from you!

What You'll Be Doing:

As a Hardware Engineering Intern, you'll have the exciting opportunity to contribute to real-world projects and gain hands-on experience in pioneering SoC technology. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with the design, verification, and implementation of digital hardware blocks for our Embedded Analytics IP.
  • Contributing to RTL (Register Transfer Level) development and simulation.
  • Developing and enhancing testbenches to ensure the robustness and functionality of our designs.
  • Participating in the integration of various IP components into complex SoC architectures.
  • Learning about hardware debugging and validation processes.
  • Collaborating with experienced engineers on challenging technical problems.
  • This internship is designed to provide you with valuable exposure to the full hardware development lifecycle within a supportive and innovative team environment.

What You Will Bring:

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated students currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in one of the following subject areas:

  • Electrical Engineering (with a focus on digital design, embedded systems, or integrated circuits)
  • Computer Science (with an emphasis on embedded software, operating systems, or low-level programming)
  • Electronics or Mechatronics Engineering

Beyond your academic pursuits, we are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • A strong passion for hardware engineering and digital design, eager to explore how chips work and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Foundational understanding of digital logic design and computer architecture concepts.
  • Exposure to Hardware Description Languages (HDLs) like Verilog or VHDL, even if from coursework or personal projects.
  • An eagerness to learn about simulation, verification, and debugging processes in hardware development.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python) and version control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive attitude, and a desire to contribute within a collaborative team environment.
