We are seeking a motivated Master's or Bachelor's student to conduct research on the intersection of confidential computing, real-time systems, and edge computing. This thesis project will focus on evaluating and optimizing the performance of confidential workloads running on edge platforms, with particular emphasis on Intel Trust Domain Extensions (TDX) technology and containerized environments.

You'll make an impact by
- You collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary research team focused on edge and distributed computing as well as cybersecurity, immersing yourself in an innovative environment
- Building on this, you evaluate the real-time capabilities of confidential workloads on edge platforms by systematically measuring latency and jitter
- Subsequently, you benchmark Intel TDX trusted execution environments both with micro-benchmarks and full software stacks to assess the performance impact of migrating confidential workloads
- Leveraging your findings, you optimize CPU and physical network isolation techniques for real-time confidential workloads in virtualized container environments
- Finally, you disseminate your thesis results through white papers and academic publications, contributing to the broader research community
This is how you'll win us over
- Education: You are currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience and Skills:
- You have solid knowledge of operating system concepts and Linux systems programming
- You have prior academic or industry experience with Linux systems programming and container technologies such as Docker
- You are familiar with edge computing concepts and have a strong interest in cybersecurity
- Ways of Working: You are highly motivated to learn, work collaboratively, and contribute effectively within a dynamic research team
- Languages: You have excellent English skills, both written and spoken
