Head of Finance & Business Administration, Rail Infrastructure – Freight Products

Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Travel: ~25% (U.S. and international)

About the Role

The Head of Finance & Business Administration for Rail Infrastructure Freight Products is a key member of the leadership team, providing strategic and operational financial leadership across our manufacturing and business operations. This role acts as a true business partner to Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality, driving financial performance, transparency, and long-term value creation.

This leader will own end-to-end financial management for the Freight Products business, lead a team of 3–4 direct reports, and play a critical role in shaping strategy, improving efficiencies, and challenging the status quo through innovative thinking and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Finance & Business Partnership

  • Serve as a key financial leader within plant and business management, influencing strategy, investment decisions, and operational priorities.
  • Lead the development and execution of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and five-year strategic plans in alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Translate financial complexity into clear, actionable insights to support decision-making at senior leadership levels.
  • Proactively identify business risks and opportunities, quantify financial impact, and drive mitigation and value-creation initiatives.

Operational & Financial Excellence

  • Own revenue and expense budgeting, capital planning, personnel planning, and long-term financial forecasting.
  • Lead all accounting operations, including billing, accounts payable, general ledger, inventory and cost accounting, revenue recognition, and period-end closings (monthly, quarterly, and annual).
  • Oversee working capital, fixed asset management, and inventory controls, including monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare feasibility analyses for capital investments, make/buy decisions, and major business initiatives.
  • Ensure robust internal controls, policy compliance, and effective coordination with internal and external auditors.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance and business administration team; integrate and onboard new talent while supporting ongoing professional development.
  • Foster a strong ownership mindset, collaboration, and accountability within the team and across cross-functional partners.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and influencer to non-finance leaders, constructively challenging assumptions and driving results.

Transformation & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive financial and operational efficiencies through improved processes, systems, and performance management tools.
  • Implement and monitor management programs, KPIs, and dashboards that support transparency and execution excellence.
  • Bring an entrepreneurial mindset—challenging established practices and introducing new ideas to enhance competitiveness and sustainability.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • 5–8+ years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with strong controlling experience (construction or infrastructure industry experience preferred).
  • Proven people leadership experience, including developing and leading teams.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical capability, and financial judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently, take initiative, and operate with a business-owner mindset.
  • Experience working in global or international environments; international work exposure preferred.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25% domestically and internationally.

The pay range for this position is $176,256 - $238,476 annually with a target incentive of 20% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
