Transform the everyday with us.

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager to join our Digital Industries division in Milan with a permanent contract. You will lead one of the most complex and strategic automation projects in the Crane Business, acting as the appointed local expert for Italy and ensuring full alignment with the leading global Headquarters Business Unit.

Siemens is a focused technology company, pioneering intelligent solutions that transform the everyday for industries worldwide. Our technologies address real problems and shape the future of manufacturing, production, and automation.

If you are passionate about driving high‑impact projects, from Day 1 you will be empowered to deliver innovation, technical excellence, and outstanding results.

Your Challenge

Due to the strategic importance and complexity of our crane automation initiatives, the Italian organization requires a dedicated and appointed Senior Project Manager who will:

  • Act as the local reference point for the Crane Business in Italy, providing technical expertise and ownership of project execution.
  • Deliver the project in full alignment with the scope, standards, and directives of the global HQ Business Unit.
  • Drive local decision‑making, coordinate on‑site operations, and ensure smooth execution of all field activities.

As Senior Project Manager for Large Automation Projects, you will lead the entire lifecycle of automation projects, coordinate site teams, engage with HQ experts, and ensure all contractual, technical, and performance targets are achieved.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • Serve as the appointed local expert and focal point for the Crane Business in Italy, acting as the key interface between the Italian organization and the HQ Business Unit.
  • Lead and manage complex crane and port automation projects, ensuring alignment with the global execution model defined by HQ.
  • Coordinate project site operations in the customer location (outside Milan), including planning, supervision, and performance tracking of field resources and subcontractors.
  • Drive local decisions, provide guidance on Italian regulatory, operational, and technical constraints, and ensure proper local adaptation of HQ guidelines.
  • Ensure safe and compliant execution on site, applying Siemens EHS, national regulations, and project-specific requirements.
  • Define project scope, requirements, and interfaces, ensuring clarity and consistency with customer specifications and global standards.
  • Monitor project milestones, risks, and budget, implementing corrective actions when needed.
  • Manage communication and relationship with customers, ensuring transparency, technical alignment, and timely escalation.
  • Lead coordination and progress meetings with internal teams, HQ experts, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Ensure accurate project reporting, documentation, and governance in compliance with Siemens Project Management methodologies.
  • Guide, coach, and motivate the project team, ensuring a collaborative and high‑performance environment.

To be a perfect fit for this role, you would already have:

  • Proven experience managing complex industrial automation projects, ideally in cranes, port terminals, material handling, or heavy‑duty automation.
  • Strong technical understanding of PLC systems, SCADA, motion control, drives, and industrial networking.
  • Experience in coordinating major construction sites, field activities, and subcontractors.
  • Strong familiarity with EHS regulations, site safety, and risk management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and customer‑management skills.
  • Ability to take ownership, navigate complex technical challenges, and drive local strategic decisions while aligning with global guidelines.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to the project site and other Italian or international locations.
  • Proficiency in English and Italian, written and spoken.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with cross‑functional and international stakeholders.
  • Experience with crane automation or port terminal operations is a strong advantage.
  • Curiosity, resilience, and a continuous‑learning attitude.
  • Eligibility to work in Italy.
