Senior Software Test Engineer – Industrial Automation

Project specific intro:

Our main activity is testing and developing the Siemens S7-1500 PLC system. The S7-1500 product family, being one of Siemens' most innovative developments. Testing from basic functions to system diagnostics, various industrial bus systems (PROFIBUS, PROFINET, AS-i), and even OPC UA, there are numerous interesting and challenging tasks that await our colleagues every day.

You’ll make an impact by:

• Take ownership of system‑level testing of Siemens SIMATIC S7 PLC engineering systems, including unreleased products
• Plan, execute, and evaluate manual and automated tests for complex industrial automation scenarios
• Independently design and optimize hardware and system test configurations
• Define, review, and continuously improve test strategies, test plans, and test cases
• Perform in‑depth defect analysis, ensure high‑quality documentation, and actively drive resolution
• Actively contribute to the development of PLC software, test frameworks, and test tools
• Support and improve test automation solutions, CI/CD pipelines, and testing best practices
• Share knowledge and mentor junior colleagues within the team

Your success is grounded in:

• University degree in electrical engineering, software engineering, mechatronics, or a related technical field
• Strong hands‑on experience in industrial automation and testing complex systems
• Solid and proven SIMATIC S7 PLC programming experience (STL / SCL / FBD / LAD)
• Good understanding industrial communication standards (OPC UA, TCP/IP, PROFINET)
• Experience with Windows‑based test environments and system configurations
• 4+ years of experience in a similar system test / automation role
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving mindset and high level of autonomy and responsibility
• Confident English communication skills (German is an advantage) and proactive attitude toward continuous improvement

You’ll stand out with:

• Deep knowledge of TIA Portal and SIMATIC S7‑1200 / 1500 ecosystems
• Experience with test automation, CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Jenkins)
• Programming skills in C# and/or Python
• ISTQB certification or experience with industrial communication analysis (e.g. Wireshark)
