A Snapshot of Your Day 

Team Lead Primary Design (f/m/d) manages a team of engineers for top-notch engineering tasks on grid technologies.

You start your day with a team meeting where you share the status of ongoing organizational topics with your team. As every individual of your team is working on different global projects, this team meeting is very important to share information which is relevant to them. After that you have a few check-ins with some of your employees where you discuss their individual challenges, needs and other personal development topics. In these talks you provide also mentorship and support to ensure that your employees can perform their tasks with maximum confidence. You will meet with your peers from another department to discuss and synchronize initiatives which are ongoing in the Siemens Energy Cosmos.

In the afternoon, you attend your weekly meeting with your manager to discuss hiring progress, internal work, and projects. Your day ends with a meeting with some peers in the organization where you discuss the simplification of processes between different interfaces.

  • Lead, manage and develop an engineering team with responsibility for primary engineering in global grid technologies projects

What You Bring

  • University degree in technical fields like Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or equivalent
  • Long-term professional experience in the energy sector, ideally in the field of grid technologies
  • Proven experience in project management, with a strong understanding of project management methodologies and tools
  • Proven track record of guiding diverse teams in international matrix organizations with a dedication to achieving top performance outcomes through clear communication, forward-thinking, and multi-functional collaboration
  • Business proficiency in English and German

Desirable Skills:                                                                                                                                                                                                               

  • Experience in leading the team in solving challenging technical issues for HVDC/FACTS HV Equipment
  • Having technical overview Substation design, power system studies tools, requirement analysis to support component team in completing the equipment department activities in budget.
  • Good knowledge with all of the following: EHV transformers, HV switchgear, HV Reactors/Resistors/Capacitors, CT/VT, Filter banks, Converter Modules
  • Solid Understanding of HVDC/FACTS technologies,Insulation co-ordination, fault scenarios. Should be able to mentor junior members of the team.
  • Extensive Experience in understanding and managing complex customer specifications. Expert level Review of multiple projects /tender submission simultaneously due to acquired expertise.
  • Provide oversight of budget for engineering design, commissioning, maintenance, and equipment assessment.

Key Skills Duties, and interdependencies

·         To deliver a high-quality Primary design includes preparing Single line Diagram (SLD), layout and sections of switchyard, Cable Trench layout, GIS/Control Building General Arrangement drawing along with plan and sections, Cable Spread Plan for HV Cable & Tray Layout for GIS/Control Building Basement, Earthing/Lightning layout and its calculations, Illumination layout and its calculations Erection key diagram & Al Tube cutting Schedule, Hardware selections, Transformer yard layout etc.

·         Design calculations for bus bar sizing, short circuit force, SAG-Tension, cantilever strength, DSLP, Grounding, Aux Transformer sizing, Battery & Battery Charger sizing, DG set sizing, UPS sizing, illumination, and Load flow study (MV & LV system).

·         Preparing purchase specifications of HV equipment and reviewing suppliers offer, preparing loading data, reviewing and comment supplier’s drawings etc. for HVAC substations.

·         Full Responsibility for analysing and commenting on customer specification, writing clarifications, and seeking amendments.

·         Responsible for generation of BOQ for Grounding, Cable Tray, LV power/control, Clamps & Connectors, Busbar etc.

·         Should be well conversant on AutoCAD, Revit, Visio and E3D.

·         Responsible for co-ordination with the client, civil, project management and other interfaces, this will be as agreed with own team leader.

·         Monitoring of the engineering delivery progress as per the engineering programme of the project, escalating issues as and when required to the team leader.

·         As agreed with the team leader to ensure design risk assessments/HAZID’s are in place for all design solutions and residual risk’s are passed on to the H&S file.

·         To help and agree with the team leader for maintaining consistency in design.

·         To support the team leader and work on the departmental improvement issues.

·         Actively involve in standardisation of onshore primary design as agreed with own team leader.

·         Actively involve & promote Top+ business improvement programme within the team

·         Takes ownership and accountability for area of responsibility.  Makes a positive contribution to the team and department.  Sets own goals and clarifies expectations with the team leader. Invests time to help and facilitate the work of others as and when required.  Responds to the ideas, concerns and needs of the team.  Demonstrates interest in professional development to maximize own potential.

·         Maintaining consistency of design on each contract by adherence to processes and procedures.

·         Works collaboratively with all engineering departments and project managers within Siemens Energy.

·         Continuous reviewing of engineering processes and procedures to improve and recommend changes.

·         Should be well conversant in Auto CAD
