Project Procurement Team Leader

As Procurement Team Leader, you will be part of Siemens’ global Project Procurement organization within the Electrification & Automation Business Unit. You will build and lead a procurement team in Chennai supporting multiple verticals—with a primary focus on Data Center projects in Asia (APAC)—and ensure professional execution in both bid and project delivery phases.
You will report directly to the Head of Project Procurement (Erlangen, Germany) and act as a key partner to Engineering, Sales, Project Management and Site Management, contributing to supplier selection, procurement strategy, governance, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, international project environment.
Together with your team, you will procure complex technical components and related services, e.g.:
Integrated modular structures
Transformers
UPS systems
Control cabinets
Associated on-site and project services
What You Bring
We are looking for 10+ years of experience in procurement/purchasing, ideally in a project-based / solution delivery environment
Strong leadership background in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related fields; high ownership mindset and intrapreneurship.
10+ years of experience in procurement/purchasing, ideally in a project-based / solution delivery environment.
Proven track record in an international, dynamic setting; strong network in APAC is a plus.
Experience as a Project Buyer and/or Commodity Manager, ideally with cross-border project exposure.
Change mindset: you actively bring new technologies and ways of working into the organization.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence at all levels.
Strong intercultural experience and willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis.
Deep expertise in supplier negotiations, contract management, and long-term supplier relationship management.
Solid understanding of supply chain dynamics, cost drivers, and risk management.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and support decision-making.
Business-fluent English.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Economics, Engineering/Technical Studies (or comparable).
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership (Build, Lead, Grow)
Lead a team initially consisting of 3–4 Project Procurement Managers / Project Buyers, with planned expansion aligned to business growth.
Coach, mentor and develop your team—enabling high performance and professional growth.
Provide guidance on the end-to-end purchasing process, including governance topics related to the in-country manager role.
Strengthen collaboration across interfaces and empower the team to contribute to project solutions.
Take a hands-on approach: step in as Project Expert/Buyer when needed for complex cases and act as an escalation point.
Strategy, Governance & Execution Excellence
Translate procurement strategy into execution across your scope—ensuring compliance, governance and performance.
Drive implementation of defined guidelines, policies, processes, and methods.
Support and shape regional strategies for Project Procurement in collaboration with vertical management and bid/execution teams.
Establish robust sourcing and procurement processes; manage resources and procurement activities within your responsibility.
Analyze scope of supply and contract agreements, perform risk analyses, and derive negotiation recommendations.
Drive procurement strategies for selected commodities and ensure project implementation.
Lead contract and price negotiations and/or coach buyers in your team.
Manage escalations toward supplier senior management (negotiations, delays, claims, troubleshooting, supplier strategy).
Build and maintain a strong network in the procurement community (regional and global).
Ensure compliance with applicable laws/regulations and Siemens governance requirements.
