The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for executing semi-complex communications projects in support of business line messaging, activities, events, and employee programs. The primary focus of the position centers on supporting business unit and cross-business unit communications programs, as well as leadership teams across Siemens.

The Internal Communication Specialist demonstrates a good grasp of communications-related knowledge and principles and successfully applies this knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in daily work.

This role will also interface with the Corporate Communications teams, global internal communications leads, other business unit team leads, including internal functions (brand, marketing, sales, operations, product, and public relations) to ensure message clarity, consistency, and reach—both internally and externally. The position reports to the Smart Infrastructure Employee Engagement (EE) Communications Lead.

We are looking for an Internal Communications Specialist. This is a hybrid position located in Buffalo Grove, IL.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Develop and execute internal change management communications strategies and plans to drive employee awareness, understanding, and engagement in company programs and strategies.
  • Write clearly and effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Produce creative, high-quality print and electronic materials for a sophisticated and demanding audience.
  • Develop, write, and edit complex and semi-complex employee communications materials (collateral, publications, events, online communications, distribution channels, crisis communications, internal campaigns, etc.) in alignment with business objectives
  • Work closely with the EE Lead on employee and executive-level programs; promote and support the mission, objectives, and business goals of the organization
  • Work closely with the corporate communications team in the implementation of internal communications strategies

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience with an emphasis in corporate communications, internal company journalism, or comparable work
  • 3-5 years of experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
  • 3-5 years of experience managing or executing a variety of highly visible, time-sensitive, and complex communications initiatives independently and in a team environment
  • 3-5 years of experience collaborating with subject matter experts to edit materials for correctness in style, grammar, and content
  • 3-5 years of experience working with managers and employees of all levels in advising and gathering, preparing, and vetting materials in a professional manner
  • 3-5 years of experience with knowledge of communication theories, practices, and emerging technologies
  • 3-5 years of experience with proofreading skills are a must, as is familiarity with Associated Press (AP) guidelines or The Chicago Manual of Style
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 software, including experience using SharePoint
  • 3-5 years of experience with knowledge of video production and ability to navigate social media
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to support business initiatives
  • Authorized to work in the United States without the need for company sponsorship now or in the future

  • Ability to demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, preempt potential problems, and provide effective solutions by application of concepts, knowledge, resources, or processes
  • Ability to multitask on projects requiring differing skill sets, while maintaining high standards of work on a tight schedule. The successful candidate has strong organizational skills to manage workflow and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to write clearly and effectively in a deadline-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Detail-oriented, shows flexibility in a fast-paced and demanding environment with changing requirements, troubleshoots conflicts, and encourages creative communications solutions
  • Good organizational and project coordination skills; motivated self-starter
  • Ability to work effectively within a complex, multi-layered organization

  • The pay range for this position is $73,685-$126,317. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
