What will you do?

The Senior Business Development Lead will drive strategic growth initiatives for Protection, Automation, Digital Grid, and Smart Infrastructure solutions across Western Canada.

This role combines executive-level business development, strategic account management, market expansion, and technical-commercial leadership to support utility modernization and industrial electrification initiatives.

The successful candidate will work closely with utilities, industrial customers, channel partners, EPCs, consultants, and internal Siemens business units to position integrated solutions related to:

  • Protection & Control
  • Substation Automation
  • Grid Digitalization
  • Power System Communications
  • Industrial Power Distribution
  • Cybersecurity
  • Transmission & Distribution modernization

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Business Development

  • Develop and execute a regional growth strategy for Western Canada.
  • Identify and develop opportunities across:
    • Utilities
    • Energy companies
    • Industrial customers
    • OEMs
    • EPC contractors
    • Channel partners
  • Expand market presence for protection, automation, and digital grid solutions.
  • Build and maintain a strong business opportunity pipeline.
  • Perform technical training and support customers to promote Siemens products
  • Lead strategic customer discussions regarding:
    • Grid modernization
    • Digital substations
    • Electrification / IoT
    • Operational resiliency
    • Cybersecurity
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, workshops, and executive forums.

Market Strategy & Competitive Positioning

  • Analyze market trends, customer requirements, and industry investment priorities.
  • Support strategic product positioning and go-to-market planning.
  • Review competitive intelligence and benchmark solutions against market offerings.
  • Identify market gaps and growth opportunities.

Product Qualification & Technical Strategy

  • Support product homologation and utility qualification initiatives with hands on support for impacts.
  • Coordinate with engineering, R&D, and product management teams regarding technical requirements.
  • Lead and Assist customers as needed with:
    • Technical evaluations
    • Solution alignment
    • Product acceptance processes
    • Standards compliance

Tender Participation & Pursuit Leadership

  • Lead opportunity qualification and strategic pursuit activities.
  • Lead proposal development and technical-commercial bid strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with internal bidding processes, governance, and compliance.
  • Coordinate with sales, operations, engineering, and finance teams to support successful project pursuits.
  • Expand indirect sales channels and ecosystem partnerships across Western Canada.

Technical Scope

The role supports solutions and technologies including:

  • Siemens protection relays
  • SICAM Substation Automation Systems
  • Digital Substations
  • SCADA & Automation Systems
  • Relays in MV/LV Power Distribution
  • Protection & Control Architectures

What will you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in:
    • Business development
    • Utility sales
    • Protection & Automation
    • Energy infrastructure
    • Power systems
    • Grid modernization
  • Demonstrated success managing strategic utility or industrial accounts.
  • Strong technical-commercial acumen.
  • Executive-level communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience leading complex customer engagements and pursuits.

Preferred Technical Knowledge

Strong understanding of:

  • IEC61850
  • DNP3
  • Modbus
  • OPC
  • Protection relays
  • Substation communication networks
  • Utility operational environments
  • Grid modernization architectures

Experience with the following platforms is considered an asset:

  • Siemens SIPROTEC
  • SICAM
  • SEL
  • GE
  • ABB
  • MiCOM

Travel Requirements

  • Willingness to travel up to 40% within Western Canada.
[Salary is commensurate with experience, and ranges between $140.000.00 CAD - $160,000.00 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits.]
