Join our research group, Autonomous Control and Operations, located in Princeton, NJ, for a 3 month internship, and investigate new protection schemes, power system dynamics, and simulation-based methods for low-voltage grids. Our close contact with different business units in Siemens provides the opportunity to contribute to and gain experience in real industrial applications. During this internship, you will experience the excitement and challenges of industrial research. Key responsibilities:
- Contribute to the proof-of-concept development of an advanced protection scheme for low-voltage power grids
- Perform analysis of power system dynamics and apply circuit theory concepts to protection-related challenges
- Develop, run, and refine simulation models in Simulink to evaluate protection concepts and system behavior
- Document simulation setup, assumptions, results, and technical findings in a clear and structured manner
- Support the assessment of protection performance under different grid conditions and operating scenarios
- Collaborate and exchange ideas with experts in the fields of power systems modeling, dynamics and protection across Siemens research and business units
Basic Qualifications:
- M.Sc. or PhD student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong experience with Simulink
- Strong foundation in circuit theory
- Knowledge of power systems, including experience with power system dynamics simulation
- Ability to analyze technical problems, interpret simulation results, and communicate findings clearly
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
- The position requires the person to be in the United States of America and hold a valid work permit in the US for the duration of the internship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Deeper background in power system dynamics analysis
- Familiarity with power system protection concepts
- Lab experience with power system protection devices
- Experience documenting simulation studies and technical results in a research or engineering environment
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic, interdisciplinary team of experts

The pay range for this position is $32.00-$47.00 per hour. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
