Position Overview:

We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock, where we design and manufacture state-of-the-art locomotives, passenger coaches, and light rail vehicles that keep communities connected and moving. In this role, you will ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance in our welding and manufacturing processes. This position is assigned to 3rd shift. Initial training will be conducted on 2nd shift before transitioning to the regular 3rd shift schedule.


What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Performs visual CWI, dimensional, and mechanical inspections on welded and machined components and assemblies, ensuring compliance with established inspection requirements.
  • Utilizes multiple non-destructive testing (NDT) methods to verify the acceptability of welded and machined components.
  • Ensures all work complies with applicable drawings, specifications, procedures, and configuration requirements.
  • Conducts first article inspections of parts, assemblies, equipment, and tooling, documenting findings and providing inspection reports.
  • Collaborates with Weld Staff, Engineering, customers, and quality personnel to support the acceptance and progression of manufacturing work.

This posting outlines the primary responsibilities of the role, but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned in alignment with business needs.


To thrive in this role, you have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a weld shop environment.
  • 1 or more years experience with CWI inspection of increasingly difficult inspection involving the application and working knowledge of sophisticated measuring techniques.
  • Proven experience interpreting complex dimensional drawings, weld standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following:
    • AWS Certified Visual Weld Inspector Associate
      • OR:
      • VT Level II certification plus certification in one or more of the following Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques:
      • Dye Penetrant (PT)
      • Magnetic Particle (MT)
      • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The pay for this position is $31.35 - $42.42 per hour, plus an additional 20% shift differential for third shift and 10% shift different on second shift (during training) shift differential. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
