Protection & Automation Electrical Engineering Internship (Fall 2026)
- Assisting with configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of protection relays, RTUs, and HMIs.
- Supporting engineering design processes by working with AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, signal lists, and communication network diagrams.
- Using digital twin technology to simulate and test protection relay signals in a virtual environment.
- Contributing to projects involving microgrids and renewable technologies, including photovoltaic and battery storage systems.
- Supporting the development of customer proposals by learning how technical scope translates into engineering effort, cost, and deliverables.
- Assisting with post-delivery project support, including warranty, issue resolution, and customer case coordination.
- Gaining hands-on experience with testing automation panels, supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and working in the Power & Automation laboratory.
- Building familiarity with Siemens electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, breakers, transformers, and related systems.
- Current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field. Candidates must graduate between December 2026 and May 2027.
- Available to work part-time during the fall 2026 semester. Eligible candidates will be considered for the January or June 2027 cohorts of the Power Protection & Automation Engineering Development Program (PA EDP).
- Must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis.
- On-site requirement will vary based on team placement, as will expected working hours.
The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 per hour for first time Interns or $25.50 per hour for returning Interns. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
