Position Overview:

As a Fitter/Welder I, you will support a broad range of activities in a dynamic, high energy production environment in the fabrication of stainless-steel car bodies for the best rail vehicles in the world.

This role has various shift need.


What your day may look like:

  • Perform stainless steel welding, fitting, tacking, and assembly of passenger rail car bodies and subassemblies using detailed drawings, jigs, fixtures, and advanced welding equipment.
  • Ensure all welds, assemblies, and finished products meet established welding standards, engineering specifications, dimensional tolerances, and quality requirements.
  • Inspect and repair fabrication defects as needed while maintaining exceptional workmanship and attention to detail throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Safely operate welding, hand, and power tools while adhering to all safety regulations, PPE requirements, and maintaining a clean, compliant work environment.
  • Complete required work order and quality documentation, accurately track labor hours, and consistently meet production schedules, productivity goals, and budgeted labor targets with minimal supervision.

What you need to be successful:

  • High school education or GED
  • 3-5 years MIG welding experience with emphasis on Stainless Steel or completion of accredited weld education program and 2 years MIG welding experience
  • General mechanical background
  • Basic English skills - ability to read and understand written instructions and effectively communicate verbally


We would be impressed if you have:

  • AWS certification for welding stainless steel using GMAW 3G vertical up and 4F overhead
  • Working knowledge of GTAW welding


Additional Information:

  • Upon offer of employment, candidates will be subject to a background check and drug screen, as well as Pulmonary Function Test and Respirator Fit Test.

  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; climb, crawl in tight spaces or balance; talk and hear.
  • Lift and move no more than 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
  • Welders are required to wear a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR), and other required protective equipment.

This position is located in Sacramento, CA. The starting hourly rate is $23.01 plus there is a 10% shift differential for 2nd shift and 20% shift differential for 3rd shift. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
