The Software QA Engineer - Advanced will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and customer-focused software products.
In this role, you will lead and mentor a team of 6 to 8 SQA engineers, providing technical direction, fostering a culture of quality, and driving continuous improvement across the Software Quality Assurance lifecycle.
You will work closely with Product Management, Software Development, DevOps, and other stakeholders to define effective test strategies, improve product certification, increase test automation, and ensure quality is built into every stage of the software development lifecycle.
The ideal candidate combines strong SQA expertise, technical leadership, people leadership, analytical thinking, and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the SQA team: Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of 6 to 8 SQA engineers, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing quality engineering culture.
- Drive SQA strategy: Collaborate with Product Management, Development, DevOps, and other stakeholders to understand requirements, assess risks, and define comprehensive and effective test strategies for new features and products.
- Own test planning and execution: Lead the estimation, prioritization, planning, coordination, and execution of testing activities, ensuring appropriate coverage across functional, regression, integration, performance, security, and usability testing.
- Drive test automation and CI/CD: Champion automation and lead the development, adoption, and continuous improvement of automated product certification testing integrated into CI/CD pipelines, with a focus on increasing coverage, reliability, and efficiency.
- Provide technical quality leadership: Review and guide test plans, test cases, automation approaches, test data, and quality processes while ensuring alignment with product and engineering objectives.
- Improve quality processes: Identify opportunities to improve the SQA lifecycle through better methodologies, tools, automation, metrics, and engineering practices.
- Communicate quality and risk: Provide clear visibility into quality metrics, testing progress, risks, issues, and release readiness to stakeholders and act as a key liaison between SQA and other engineering organizations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, including significant experience in a senior, technical leadership, or people-management role.
- Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing SQA engineers, with the ability to build a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile/Scrum methodologies, software testing principles, test strategy, test planning, risk-based testing, and quality engineering practices.
- Strong experience designing and reviewing comprehensive test strategies, test plans, test cases, and test automation, with a focus on appropriate test coverage and product quality.
- Hands-on experience with test automation and CI/CD, including integrating automated testing into software delivery and product certification processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to work effectively across Product Management, Development, DevOps, and other engineering teams.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with test automation frameworks/tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium, Postman, or JMeter.
- Experience integrating automated tests into Jenkins or other CI/CD platforms.
- Experience with cloud technologies and enterprise software.
- Knowledge of networking concepts, software installation, configuration, and deployment.
- Familiarity with performance and security testing principles.
- Experience with test management and collaboration tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, TestRail, or ALM.
- Experience defining and tracking quality metrics, automation KPIs, test effectiveness, and release quality indicators.
