Siemens Digital Industries Software (SW) helps organizations of all sizes digitally transform using software, hardware and services from the Siemens Xcelerator business platform. Siemens' software and the comprehensive digital twin enable companies to optimize their design, engineering and manufacturing processes to turn today's ideas into the sustainable products of the future. From chips to entire systems, from product to process, across all industries, we accelerate transformation. Siemens Digital Industries Software is one of five business units of Siemens Digital Industries (DI), a leading innovator in automation and digitalization. The other four businesses are Factory Automation, Process Automation, Motion Control and Customer Services.

Start your career with the Strategic Student Program (SSP)

The Strategic Student Program is our formal internship program globally. You will be mentored by guides and again invaluable professional experience. At Siemens, SSP interns get access to an international student network and community, career development opportunities with professional growth pathways, comprehensive practical training throughout the program, access to the Siemens Learning Hub and other training materials, and the opportunity to collaborate on exciting projects within a global, diverse team.

Internship topic: Investigations on the Discretization of Fuel Cell Models.

What you’ll be doing

Simcenter Amesim is a system simulation tool, one of whose applications is fuel cell modeling.

The operating conditions (reactant concentration, humidity, pressure, temperature) evolve throughout the cells of a fuel cell. This generates heterogeneous electrochemical performance, which cannot be gained with a simple 0-D model.
Discretizing a fuel cell model into several segments along the bipolar plate channels makes it possible to bring together spatial variations in temperature, pressure, species concentration, and humidity.
Building a discretized fuel cell model is already possible in Amesim and is shown in a standard demo. However, this process currently must be done manually and remains too time-consuming.
A simpler solution, based on a user-friendly interface, is needed to easily and quickly define how to discretize the fuel cell model and set its parameters.
Several options could be considered to discretize a fuel cell model in Amesim.

During the internship, you will:
  • Analyze how fuel cell model discretization is handled by other tools.
  • Assess the pros and cons of the different solutions for discretizing fuel cell models, configuring them, generating super-components if necessary, and post-processing simulation results.
  • For the best identified solutions, write detailed guidelines and specifications for developing the required submodels and user interfaces.
  • If time and skills allow, begin developing prototypes to evaluate the concepts.

This 6-month internship is based in Lyon (69), France and is available from January 2026.

All about you!

Currently enrolled in a French university you are pursuing an engineering degree or equivalent, with a specialization in energy/electrochemistry related to the hydrogen sector, and a strong interest in systems engineering.

  • You have skills in system modeling/simulation (Amesim, Simulink, GT or equivalent experience).
  • You show a strong interest in new energies.
  • You can find technical information and apply it efficiently.
  • You are agile, curious, attentive, and eager to refine your proposals to gain user acceptance in a scientific environment.
  • You have strong interpersonal and communication skills, in both French and English, enabling effective collaboration within the team, and at the same time able to work independently and proactively.
  • Ideally, you have coding skills (C, Python).
