What will you do?
Siemens Digital Industries is seeking a motivated Application Engineer for Motion Control to join our Sales Acceleration team. As a valued member of the Sales Acceleration Team, the Application Engineer – Motion Control plays a pivotal role in driving automation sales success. Working closely with the field sales organization, you will accelerate the adoption of Siemens motion control, drives and automation solutions by being assigned to high priority customers and providing both hands-on and remote technical support throughout the sales lifecycle.
An Application Engineer – Motion Control brings expertise in designing complex automation architectures involving multiple products and technologies, with specialized experience in motion control and drives. This role blends deep technical knowledge with customer-facing collaboration, offering a dynamic and rewarding career path at the intersection of engineering and sales.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Acts as the technical expert for motion control, drives and production machine application (PMA) solutions for the Canadian market
- Provides technical product advice for the development and implementation of complex or unique customer solutions
- Serves as an escalation point for resolving complex technical challenges, providing on-site support when necessary to ensure customer satisfaction and system reliability
- Performs complex hardware and/or software design consultation in accordance with customer/project needs
- Prepares and presents detailed technical proposals, including product demonstrations and solution prototypes
- Assists customers with commissioning machines, debugging complex drives and motion control systems and machine processes, testing and tuning technology functions, and optimizing machine performance
- Understands end customer requirements and develops proof of concept system architecture and recommended parts list for end customers

- Drives the adoption and integration of advanced motion control technologies to enhance customer competitiveness, accelerate time-to-market, and support Siemens' growth objectives in the Canadian automation market
- Applies acquired process, product and/or equipment knowledge based on current industry trends, best practices, performance, price and functionality
- Implements a yearly learning and development plan focusing on technical skills and engineering soft skills
What will you need to succeed?
- Bachelor's/Master's of Engineering/Science in electrical/computer/mechanical engineering or computer science
- A DEC or equivalent training will also be considered
- 5+ years of experience in motion control and drives/automation systems with direct PLC programming experience
- Hands-on experience in Industrial Automation Platforms, Industrial networks, Factory Automation and Drives and Motion
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills along with proven ability to provide technical training in French and English (bi-lingual)
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Occasional national travel
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Prior experience with Siemens drives, motion control and Automation is a plus
- Experience with:
- Motion control and Drives
- Controllers (PLCs)
- Machine Safety
- Proof of concept development
- Working experience with SINAMICS drives and SIMATIC PLCs will be an added advantage.
