The Electrification & Automation (EA) Business Unit located in Wendell, NC is growing steadily and is seeking a motivated and learning-oriented Entry-Level Applications Engineer to join our Proposal and Engineering team.
This role is ideal for recent graduates or junior engineers who are eager to learn and develop technical expertise in power systems, protection and control, automation, and Microgrid solutions. You will support the development of proposals, configuration of technical solutions, and preparation of documentation for customers throughout the United States while learning Siemens tools, standards, and engineering methods.
The Entry-Level Applications Engineer will work closely with senior Applications Engineers, Sales, and other cross-functional stakeholders to learn how to build customer solutions, evaluate specifications, prepare technical proposals, and develop an understanding of EA products, systems, and services. Training and mentorship will be provided to support professional and technical growth.
This position is based in Wendell, NC working a hybrid work model. This could be converted to a remote work position once the required learning phase and on-site training is successfully completed. Travel to office, customer site visits, and industry events could be required up to 20%.
Responsibilities
- Review customer specifications, technical requirements, and product documentation under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Support the development of technical and commercial proposals for automation, protection, and power distribution systems.
- Assist in preparing panel layouts, bill of materials (BOM), and basic system architectures.
- Help with collection of required technical data, drawings, and documentation for project quotations and internal approvals.
- Learn to interpret and apply applicable industry standards (IEEE, IEC, UL, NEMA) related to electrical systems and products.
- Participate in internal meetings with Engineering, Sales, and Project Management to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle.
- Support updating templates, tools, and documentation that improve proposal efficiency and standardization.
- Develop proficiency in Siemens EA portfolio, including software tools used for sizing, configuration, and proposal development.
- Build a foundation in technical communication through customer-facing documents, training, and workshops.
- Demonstrate continuous learning, curiosity, and proactive engagement in assigned tasks.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, similar from an accredited university.
- 0 -1 year of basic understanding of Electrical Power System fundamentals (Generation, Transmission, and/or distribution).
- Basic knowledge of what a Single Line Diagram represents and ability to identify major substation equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Participants should be willing to travel up to 20%.
- English language skills written and verbal.
- Must be located near or willing (and able) to relocate to Raleigh, NC.
- Legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Introductory understanding of SCADA systems and HMI concepts, and awareness of common communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus).
- Knowledge and experience evaluating Single line drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, communication network diagrams and related engineering documents.
- Experience with Electrical and 2D Layout drawing tools such as AutoCad, Visio, etc.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and understand I/O mapping between devices, relays, and RTUs/PLCs.
- Exposure to protective relay configuration software (e.g., DIGSI, SEL AcSELerator, PCM600).
- Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for power distribution applications and the best practices. In particular, Protection and Automation applications.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE C37 series, ANSI device functions, or IEC 61850.

The pay range for this position is $50,337 - $86,292 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
