We are currently recruiting a highly skilled and motivated Senior Technical Support Engineer - Control Systems to play a key role in maintaining, improving and optimising Siemens Railway Control and Automation Technologies. Working across platforms such as Westcad MT, Westcad ML, Vicos, OCS, and Rail 9000, you will act as a trusted technical expert supporting day-to-day operations as well as long-term system development.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and driving meaningful improvements within critical national rail infrastructure.
You’ll make a difference by
- Leading technical investigations and delivering smart engineering solutions
- Providing 1st-3rd line support for operational control systems
- Analysing logs, alarms, and operational data to spot trends and root causes
- Designing and implementing system upgrades, improvements, and enhancements
- Supporting testing, commissioning, safety assurance, and change control
- Building strong relationships with customers and internal teams
- Driving continuous improvement across our control systems portfolio
Your success will be grounded by
- Working knowledge of Siemens operational control systems and Traffic (Train) Management Systems, such as Westcad MT, Westcad ML, Vicos, or Rail 9000.
- The ability to take initiative as a self‑starter and comfortably navigate complex technical challenges.
- Experience in control systems, ideally gained within rail or other safety‑critical sectors.
- Strong diagnostic capability, with confidence in interpreting data and resolving issues efficiently.
- Solid knowledge of control architectures, SCADA, PLCs, networking, and system interfaces used in railway environments.
- Clear, effective communication skills with the talent to simplify complex technical concepts.
- A drive to learn continuously, innovate, and contribute to ongoing performance improvements.
It would also be beneficial to
- Have a current and valid IRSE licence or be actively working towards obtaining one.
- Be PTS certified
- Have experience with cyber security in railway or industrial control system environments
- Understand railway operations, signalling principles, and operational control centre workflows.
