What will you do?
The Capacity Planner is responsible for ensuring efficient and timely planning of production activities, balancing customer demand, material availability, and manufacturing capacity. This role supports daily, weekly, and long-term capacity planning while driving effective communication between Production, Source, Engineering, and Order Management teams. The position also plays a key role in supporting schedule adherence, identifying and resolving capacity constraints, and maintaining the overall health of the production plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain daily capacity capabilities by work center, identifying constraints and assisting in resolution.
- Perform weekly reporting of work center capacities.
- Validate material availability to support the schedule plan; identify shortages and coordinate with Source team.
- Plan and establish shop-floor production schedules considering customer orders, material availability, and plant capacity.
- Dispatch new production orders to ensure capacity alignment.
- Carry out detailed capacity planning for machine and labour resources by work center.
- Participate in decision-making processes regarding make-in-house versus alternative production strategies to compensate for capacity bottlenecks.
- Expedite and de-expedite production orders as required to meet customer delivery expectations.
- Communicate production priorities to the shop floor using agreed up tools and processes.
- Advise the Order Management team of any delays impacting customer deliveries.
- Create manufacturing-related schedules aligned with orders and forecasted demand.
- Generate MTR production orders for R&D and Product Engineering.
- Support Team Leads with production order-related tasks.
- Implement Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) accurately and on time.
- Collaborate cross-functionally, sharing relevant information to ensure optimal supply chain performance.
- Provide lead times to Order Entry upon customer request.
- Actively support continuous improvement initiatives within planning, scheduling, and production processes.
What will you need to succeed?
- Post-secondary education: College Diploma in Materials Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in production planning, capacity planning, or supply chain logistics.
- Strong experience with SAP or comparable ERP systems.
- Excellent computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, and word processing.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Effective relationship management and teamwork skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience, and base salary ranges between $ 65,800 CAD - $ 87,000 CAD, excluding benefits.
Location: You will be required to work from the Peterborough, ON location during the initial training of 6 months and then will permanently transfer to Concord, ON location.
