We are looking for a Customer Services Locomotive Maintenance Documentation & Process Improvement Intern. This position will be based at our Sacramento area branch located in California.
During your summer journey with us, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Data Integrity department where you will learn how to support the review, organization, and modernization of our Locomotive Maintenance Work Instructions. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in technical documentation management and process optimization within an industrial setting.

A little bit about us
Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail – including rolling stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We craft and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.
How does Data Integrity plays into the big picture?
The Data Integrity department is responsible for modernizing how our organization creates, maintains, and uses data, to improve outcomes for our passenger rail customers.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Instruction Discovery and Consolidation: Identify and gather all existing Locomotive Maintenance Work Instructions from various storage locations and platforms.
- Organizational Analysis and Recommendation: Evaluate current documentation practices and propose a structured, sustainable organizational framework for future work instructions.
- Documentation Improvement: Initiate the process of reviewing, standardizing, and enhancing existing work instructions to improve clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Process Development for Maintenance: Assist in developing and implementing a systematic approach for the ongoing maintenance and updating of these critical instructions.
- Activity Record Support: Contribute to the manual completion of Activities records, which are integral to maintaining an accurate Service Bill of Material.
Critical Capabilities:
- Demonstrated organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
- Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Prior exposure to technical documentation or process improvement methodologies is beneficial.
Who Should Apply?
- Education / Majors: Current sophomore or junior undergraduates pursuing a BA/BS from an accredited college or university and majoring in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Industrial, Systems), Technical Writing, Information Management with strong technical or analytical aptitude
- Availability: 40 hours per week from June to August
- Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
- Prior internship or co-op experience (preferred) with a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Demonstrated leadership potential
- Strong analytical, writing, presentation, and critical-thinking skills
- Industry knowledge and/or interest

The hourly pay range for this position is $25 - $30 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
