Chief of Staff, R&D
- Strategy-to-execution translation Convert R&D strategy and leadership priorities into actionable objectives and key results, achievements, and success metrics.
- Objectives and key results and performance cadence Establish and run the operating rhythm (quarterly planning, weekly execution reviews, critical metrics/objectives and key results reporting) to ensure progress and accountability.
- C-suite alignment Partner with CEO/CFO/SVP, OSS/SVP, Revenue and other executives to align on outcomes, dependencies, investment trade-offs, and timelines; represent R&D progress and constraints with clarity and confidence.
- Execution enablement Identify risks, dependencies, and delivery blockers; drive resolution by the accountable individuals with urgency and follow-through.
- Program and portfolio oversight Support prioritization and sequencing of major initiatives across all R&D functions (e.g. Product, Engineering, Design, Architecture, Security); ensure focus on highest-value work and measurable impact.
- Communication and leadership support Prepare exec-ready updates, narratives, and materials, drive clarity on goals, trade-offs, and decisions across the R&D organization and executive team.
- Continuous improvement Strengthen planning, delivery management, and metric rigor; help teams improve predictability and outcomes in a performance driven environment.
- 7 - 10 yeas proven experience driving execution in complex, fast-paced software/R&D environments (e.g., Chief of Staff, Program/Portfolio Leadership, Strategy & Operations, or senior Technical/Product Operations).
- Engineering, Science, or Technology degree required, MBA desirable.
- Solid capability in objectives and key results design, metric definition, and performance management (leading indicators, outcome metrics, delivery metrics).
- Proven track record to operate effectively with the C-suite, balancing business priorities with product and engineering realities.
- Proficiency in employing modern AI technologies for productivity, efficiency, and to evaluating solution tradeoffs.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and facilitation skills; able to influence without relying on formal reporting lines.
- A highly organized operator: establishes rhythms, procedures, and reports that enhance transparency and responsibility while avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- Clear, concise communicator; able to synthesize ambiguity into decisions, plans, and streamlined executive updates.
- Sound judgment, discretion, and ability to operate with executive-level trust and confidentiality.
- Understanding of SaaS business dynamics and product delivery is an advantage.
- Adept at creating Excel and PowerPoint to clearly model or communicate sophisticated operational and business concepts.

- Ability to travel 10-20%
- Candidates must be located on the East Coast or willing to relocate to Raleigh, NC.

- Executive team has high confidence in R&D delivery due to clear, reliable reporting and streamlined decision support.
- Improved delivery predictability and execution against key results.
- Faster decision-making and reduced cross-team friction across R&D and the broader business.
- Reports to the SVP, Product and with a strong dotted line to SVP, Technology. Maintains a positive relationship to the broader executive team.
- Acts as SVP, Technology’s & SVP, Product’s delegate in driving alignment, follow-through, and accountability across R&D.

The pay range for this position is $145,156 - $248,839 annually with a target incentive of 20% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
