We are looking for a Protection & Automation Engineer meeting the need for smart-mobility solutions.

Your new role – Challenging and future oriented 

This role focuses on delivering Protection, Automation & Control engineering for Railway & Metro traction substations, OHE/PS systems, and depot power systems. The engineer must have strong command over Siemens SIPROTEC relays, Siemens PLCs, A8000 RTUs, and communication protocols commonly used in rail applications.

1. Protection Engineering for Railway Systems

  • Prepare protection philosophy & settings for 25 kV AC traction substations.
    • Configure and test SIPROTEC 4/5 series relays for Distance protection, Transformer protection, Distance  protection, Busbar protection
  • Implement CFC logic for advanced interlocking used in railway traction power.
  • Implement cyber security hardening measures

2. Railway Control & Automation

  • Program Siemens PLC (S7 1500/ ET200SP) for local/remote control in Traction Substation, Sectioning Post, paralleling Posts, SP, SSP.
  • Implement interlocking logic for breakers, isolators, ATs & protection coordination.
  • Integrate PLC/RTU with SCADA systems used in railways.

3. Siemens RTU (A8000) Engineering

  • Engineer and configure A8000 RTUs for railway substations.
  • Develop IEC 60870 5 104/101 communication with Operation Control Center (OCC)
  • Create & integrate IEC 61850 SCD/ICD files for traction power automation.

4. Documentation & Project Delivery

  • Prepare railway specific engineering documents:
    • Traction Substation, Sectioning Post, Paralleling Posts, Sub-Sectioning and Paralleling Post  protection concept Drawings
    • Control & interlocking philosophy
    • Network Diagrams
  • Support Factory Integration Tests (FIT)/Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)  and support for commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC, EN, IEEE & local standards.
  • Support Project manager / Technical manager with Project planning

  • TIA Portal for Siemens PLC
  • Siemens A8000 engineering tools
  • IEC 61850, IEC 104, Modbus, DNP3, Profinet
  • Visio for drawings
  • Bonus points for fundamental project management knowledge
  • Willingness to travel (e.g., for site visits, FAT/FIT support, commissioning)
  • Proactive and detail-oriented mindset
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken). Additional language skills [e.g., German] are a plus.

Qualifications

  • B.E/B. Tech in Electrical or Power System Engineering
  • 8-12 years of working experience with railway traction projects, metro projects, or utility substations
  • Familiarity with ISO / IEC standards (added advantage)
  • Experience with Railway Traction power supply concepts (added advantage)
