Transform the everyday with us!
If you've spent the last few years in the field or the office of a GC or specialty contractor - estimating, managing subcontractors, coordinating scopes, chasing RFIs — you already know how projects are won and lost. You understand cost, risk, and what it takes to execute.
Now imagine applying all of that knowledge at a different scale entirely.
Siemens Smart Infrastructure is looking for a Construction Procurement Lead to join our Central region, based in the Detroit area. This role is designed for an early-career construction professional who is ready to see the full commercial picture of how a global enterprise competes, wins, and delivers marquee projects.
You'll own the sourcing process for some of our most complex and high-value project pursuits — developing and executing a sourcing strategy to help Siemens win more projects and minimize execution risks. You'll work shoulder-to-shoulder with Sales, Operations, Engineering, and Finance, giving you a front-row seat to how Siemens manages its competitive position from pursuit through execution.
As a Construction Procurement Lead, you will:
- Lead end-to-end sourcing for third-party materials and subcontracted scopes on large, complex project pursuits. This includes running competitive RFQ/RFP processes, conduct bid leveling, lead negotiations, and drive award recommendations
- Partner with Sales from early pursuit stages to develop a sourcing strategy that provides a competitive cost position
- Work with Procurement peers in category management to leverage Siemens’ buying power into your projects
- Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to reduce risk on subcontract and material purchases during project execution
- Act as a business partner to the area management team
- Have strong relationship skills — you can hold your ground commercially while keeping stakeholders on your side
- You'll be the lead in your market. This isn't a support role — you'll own procurement for the Detroit area with the backing of a Central team and a global procurement network behind you.
- The career paths are real and varied. The natural progression is towards more senior procurement roles, including management. Many people who have held this role have moved into Sales and Operations roles as well. With a global footprint and multiple businesses, you can always find a new challenge at Siemens.
You will make an impact with these qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience in commercial construction, including hands-on responsibility for sourcing and negotiating subcontracts (MEP trades preferred, but not required)
- Must be able to demonstrate familiarity with construction documents, bid packages, and the RFQ/RFP process
- Understanding of risk factors for trade contractors and what makes a subcontractor a good or risky partner
- Willingness to travel approximately 10% for project and stakeholder engagement
Preferred Qualifications:
- Curiosity and comfort with technology; we actively develop AI tools and automation within our procurement function and we want someone who wants to be part of that
- You have an ownership mindset. You don't wait to be told what to do with a problem
- You think beyond the negotiation table creating competitive tension through market knowledge and strategy
- You make a team better. People want to work with you because of how you work, not just what you know
- You're curious about how businesses actually work, not just how projects get built
