We are looking for Commodity Manager - Strategic Procurement for Metallics
As a Commodity Manager, you will act as a key liaison between Rolling Stock Procurement HQ in Germany and the regional procurement team in Bangalore, India. You will drive global procurement strategies while strengthening local supplier integration to support localization and cost competitiveness.
You’ll make a difference by
- Strategy Execution & Localization
- Implement global procurement strategies within the Indian market
- Identify and onboard capable local suppliers to support localization initiatives
- Supplier Management & Development
- Evaluate, develop, and qualify suppliers under the “local for global” approach
- Collaborate with cross-functions (Engineering, Production, Quality) to enhance supplier capability
- Sourcing & Cost Optimization
- Analyze demand for metallic/direct production materials
- Conduct RFQs, price benchmarking, and commercial evaluations
- Prepare sourcing recommendations aligned with HQ stakeholders
- Negotiation & Contracting
- Lead commercial negotiations (pricing, terms, conditions) using both collaborative and competitive approaches
- Digital Procurement & Transparency
- Utilize e-sourcing tools (e-auctions, RFQs) to ensure transparent and competitive sourcing
- Productivity & Continuous Improvement
- Drive cost reduction and productivity initiatives with internal teams and suppliers
- Escalation Management
- Act as first escalation point for supplier performance issues impacting logistics or operations
Desired Skills:
- Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or Business Administration
- Several years of experience in strategic procurement, preferably in manufacturing or rolling stock
- Strong knowledge of metallic components (steel structures, car body parts)
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and understand manufacturing processes
- Proven experience in supplier negotiations and contract management
- Business-fluent English required; German is a strong advantage
- Ability to work effectively in a global, cross-cultural environment
- Structured, analytical, and results-driven mindset
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Proactive, innovative, and open-minded approach
