Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock is seeking a dynamic Group Lead for the Locomotive Welding team. In this pivotal role, you will champion continuous improvement in safety, budget performance, and schedule adherence by applying lean manufacturing principles across both production execution and planning phases.

Collaborating closely with the core production team, you will lead hands-on technical problem-solving efforts—addressing challenges related to standard and non-standard work, tooling, material flow, safety protocols, engineering drawings, BOMs, and process optimization.

What your day may look like:

  • Lead and support a team of welders by assigning work, providing training, and ensuring employees have the tools and guidance needed to succeed.
  • Drive safety, quality, and productivity by monitoring daily performance, conducting quality checks, and reinforcing best practices in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Coordinate production activities with supervisors and fellow Group Leaders to ensure schedules, milestones, and customer commitments are met.
  • Support new product introductions by assisting with mock-ups, prototype builds, and the launch of first production vehicles while helping resolve manufacturing challenges.
  • Perform hands-on welding and fabrication work from detailed engineering drawings, fitting and welding assemblies to AWS D1.1 and D1.6 standards while meeting production targets.

What you will need to be successful:

  • 2 Years’ experience in a Manufacturing Environment.
  • Experience leading a diverse team in a production environment.
  • A history of "hands-on" approach to problem solving and countermeasure implementation within own areas of responsibility.
  • We would be impressed if you had:
  • 5 + years of experience planning and supporting the launch of new production lines in a low-speed production environment (e.g. rail, aviation/aerospace, naval, heavy equipment, etc.).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering (Or Equivalent Experience).
  • Work experience in the rail business, preferably in light rail, heavy rail, or related production, is needed.
  • Knowledge of SAP or similar MRP / ERP systems is highly desired.
  • Practical experience in Customer Service / Maintenance / After Market businesses and technologies within the rail industry Highly preferred.
