Mechanical Trade Assistant - Rail Industry

In this role you will:
- Support Rail Technicians with the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of rolling stock, depot workshop equipment and mechanical rail systems.
- Assist with planned and corrective maintenance work, including component removal, installation, replacement and basic mechanical tasks under the direction of qualified tradespeople.
- Prepare tools, materials, equipment and work areas to help maintenance activities run safely and efficiently.
- Use hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely and within your authorised competency level.
- Help keep the workshop, stores, equipment and work areas clean, organised and ready for use.
- Complete maintenance records, checklists and documentation, and participate in toolbox talks, training and continuous improvement activities.
We don’t need superheroes, just super minds.
- Experience in a hands-on workshop, maintenance, mechanical, automotive, manufacturing, mining, defence, heavy vehicle or industrial environment will be highly regarded.
- A strong safety mindset, with the ability to follow work instructions, SWMS, WHS requirements, site procedures and safe working practices.
- Basic mechanical aptitude, good literacy and numeracy skills, and the ability to read procedures, work orders, maintenance instructions and basic technical documentation.
- Current unrestricted driver’s licence required. Forklift, EWP, overhead crane, dogging or First Aid qualifications are desirable, but not mandatory.
