Siemens Electrification and Automation is seeking an experienced Protection and Automation Panel Design Engineer to support Siemens customers in designing, developing, and manufacturing world-class power protection and automation panels of substation Protection, automation systems and applications that incorporate Siemens or other automation products.
We are looking for an Experienced Protection and Automation Panel Design Engineer. This position will be based at Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Design Electrical, Mechanical and System Drawings of Protection and Control Panels in accordance with customer specifications and guidelines, using design software and drawing tools.
- Develop logic diagrams and protection schemes based on technical drawings and further customer specifications.
- Prepare (FAT & SAT) Factory & Site Acceptance Test procedures for protection systems projects.
- Collaborate with a team of professionals to develop electrical Systems that meet industry standards, and customer requirements.
- Be a technical leader in projects or lead other team members in project activities.
- Be one of our primary customer interfaces, including trouble shooting and commissioning support.
- Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle, including design, implementation, and commissioning phases.
- Occasionally provide technical support to the sales team with the development of project scope of work, sales estimates, and proposals.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- 5+ years of direct experience in electrical design in the Power Systems protection and Control Engineering Field.
- Experience working as Lead Engineer for Electrical Panel Desing projects
- Experience working with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical or Engineering Base-AUCOTEC Software.
- Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Visio tools.
- Advanced Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Applied knowledge of transmission and distribution protection relays; capable of designing and specifying them; capable of approving and supervising the designs of other engineers.
- Knowledge of Siemens, GE, SEL or ABB relay/automation products and associated software.
- Communication Network Technologies, including Design and hardware configuration.
- Communication protocols experience such as IEC61850 (MMS/GOOSE/SMV), DNP, Modbus, IEC103, IEC101, IEC104, PROFINET, PROFIBUS.
- Knowledge of ANSI standards related to Protection and Electrical Panel Design.
- Around 5% of travel is expected depending on project assignments and requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Protection and Automation Systems of Electrical Systems.
- Applied knowledge of Medium and High Voltage Protection
- Medium voltage protection schemes (including design of transfer schemes and reverse interlocking schemes)
- Generator Protection
- Line Differential and Distance Protection
- Experience in designing Protection and Automation Panels for utilities.
- Professional Engineer license (PE).
- C Programming Language experience.
- Experience working with Engineering Base (EB) Software-AUCOTEC and the Global Engineering Library (GEL) database for design.
- Experience working with MicroStation Software.
- Knowledge of IEC standards related to Protection and Electrical Panel Design.

The pay range for this position is $83,966 - $143,942 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
