We are seeking a dynamic Research Scientist to join our Process Integration & Design Research Group! This person will significantly contribute to our technology strategy and help shape our roadmap in the field of advanced (including additive) manufacturing and sustainability.
This research group provides pre-development and research services including prototyping, technology evaluation and assessments in many areas of Advanced Digital Manufacturing and Circularity. We are demonstrating the complete value chain needed for future manufacturing and clean energy solutions including materials simulation, electrochemical applications, data traceability for closed-loop control, recycling and life cycle analysis. The team, co-located in Charlotte NC and Princeton NJ, provides tremendous opportunities because digitalization solutions using the Siemens software applications in combination with new technologies can be developed and quickly tested in a real productive environment. The group also collaborates strongly with other teams in the US and globally on topics like Materials, Manufacturing, Automation Technologies, Simulation, Digital Twin, and Artificial Intelligence.
This role is in Princeton, NJ or Charlotte, NC. This outstanding opportunity allows to work in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility as well as in other labs. The right person for this role understands the history of advanced manufacturing and has a passion for driving technology innovations!
In this role, you will work on-site in our US headquarter in Princeton, NJ or the R&D hub in Charlotte, NC. However, travel to between Princeton, NJ and Charlotte, NC will be necessary, as project needs require.

The Research Scientist will:
- Contribute to the Research Group’s strategy and roadmap in the field of advanced manufacturing and circularity.
- Develop tools and products for an efficient and transparent circular economy, from eco-design to proper recycling, tracking the entire product lifecycle and all its value-added stages. Focus here lies on the circular economy of rare earth elements/critical materials essential for clean energy production, aircraft electric and hybrid vehicles, low-energy lighting, and more.
- Leverage concurrent areas of recycling, design/simulation, and validation testing of recycled materials to improve REE/CM extraction from domestic sources, particularly end-of-life batteries and manufacturing scrap.
- Develop innovative, scalable AI solutions in Manufacturing Processes (Design and Integration)
- Carry out simulation for thermostructural and electrochemical analysis for materials performance and degradation for fuel cells and battery technologies for technoeconomic and life cycle analysis.
- Hands-on contributor to collaborate with process experts by integrating advanced sensors, nondestructive evaluation and digital solutions for materials quality inspection and traceability for control of manufacturing processes for fuel cells and batteries.
- Build Siemens-internal network to acquire and lead research projects to advance the technology and secure innovation.
- Collaborate with other research groups to extend research scope and integrate into comprehensive solutions.
- Closely interact with Principals, R&D heads, and Technology Field heads
- Assist in developing brand recognition externally by networking with industry experts, attending conferences, and partnering with universities in the US.
- This role requires up to 5% global travel, primarily to Germany, and up to 20% domestic travel.
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD degree with industrial experience in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar from an accredited university.
- 2+ years of experience with applying AI tools to industrial data.
- 4+ years of experience with materials process knowledge and potential circularity and sustainability opportunities.
- 4+ years of experience in the areas of clean energy solutions working within academia, industry, or military/government.
- Experience working in an independent technical role.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future (Must be a US Citizen or Green card holder in process of citizenship)
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise and experience in Industrial Robots for manufacturing
- Flexibility and resourcefulness to work in a growing, dynamic, and international team with a strong customer service orientation.
- Capable of presenting sophisticated technical topics in a clear and structured way, and ability to moderate discussions, meetings, and projects

The pay range for this position is $102,459 - $198,147 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
