Position: Program Manager - Research and Innovation

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Program Manager - Research and Innovation Ecosystems, to lead our academic engagement efforts with a focus on advancing research and innovation. This role is pivotal in cultivating partnerships with top-tier universities and research institutions to support our R&D agenda, co-develop technologies, and build a robust pipeline of technical talent. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of academic ecosystems, research collaboration models, and the ability to align external partnerships with internal R&D priorities.

In this role you will work a hybrid work model out of our Princeton, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Partnership Strategy:
    • Support the development of a global university engagement strategy aligned with Siemens’s "ONE Tech Company" vision and its R&D goals, focusing on joint research, technology scouting, and innovation acceleration.
    • Adapt the global strategy to the resources and practices available in the US.
  • Collaborative Research:
    • Serve as a liaison between academic partners and internal R&D stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment and effective collaboration, with emphasis on institutions that are members of the Siemens Research and Innovation Ecosystems (RIEs).
    • Work with Research Groups and the Government Research Program to help create teaming opportunities that increase the quality of proposals submitted to government agencies.
  • Research & Innovation Ecosystem Development:
    • Build relationships with university leaders, department heads, and faculty members to identify emerging technologies.
    • Serve as a liaison between the RIE Program and other regional Siemens programs that also interact with universities (Talent Acquisition, Academic Enablement, Sales,…)
  • Execution:
    • Work closely with the legal and financial teams to ensure collaborations are set up in time and according to internal practices and guidelines related to external collaboration.
    • Track engagement outcomes, research impact, and talent conversion metrics; provide regular updates to leadership.
  • Visibility
    • Organize academic workshops, research symposia, and innovation challenges to foster knowledge exchange and visibility.
    • Work with communication teams and use available communication channels to promote Siemens image and its Research and Innovation Ecosystems.
    • Represent Siemens in external bodies that convene industry, universities, and government to address topics of common interest (e.g., UIDP)

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in a STEM field, Business, similar from an accredited university.
  • 5+ years of experience in university relations, research partnerships, or R&D program management.
  • Deep understanding of academic research environments and collaboration models.
  • Project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working in or with corporate Research and Development organizations.
  • Ability to travel to partner institutions and events as needed >20%
  • Proficient in English both written and verbal
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with IP management, research contracts, and academic funding mechanisms.
  • Experience in technology scouting or innovation management.
  • Knowledge of global academic ecosystems and emerging research trends.

The pay range for this position is $100,603 - $172,462 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
