Position Overview:

Siemens Mobility is seeking a Fleet Head of Materials to lead a high-performing team responsible for ensuring material availability and operational excellence across projects with our customer Amtrak. This role combines people leadership, critical thinking, and process improvement to deliver exceptional customer satisfaction and safeguard company interests. You will empower your team, drive collaboration, and influence cross-functional initiatives to achieve business goals.

The Materials Management team plays a key role in the success of the Maintenance Contracts organization within our Customer Services business. Our mission is to ensure material availability in accordance with our contractual obligations for our customers under a Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement (TSSSA).   Our job includes planning, coordinating, tracking and handling materials while ensuring proper custody and timely recording of all transactions involving materials within the projects we are responsible for. To achieve this, the Materials Management team is directly embedded in the projects developing customer relationships, supporting the technical team on their material needs and sharing key information with the Project Management and Commercial Project Management Teams. The Materials Management functions as a liaison between the project and the Supply Management, Strategic Procurement, Engineering, Quality and IT teams interacting with these functions daily to ensure the Material is at the Right Place and the Right Time and the Right Quantity.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • People Management:
    • Lead a team Materials Managers responsible for TSSSA contracts with Amtrak.
    • Hire, develop, and lead Material Managers, Coordinators, and Handlers.
    • Ensure employees take ownership, uphold standards of conduct, and address difficult choices as required.
    • Provide constructive feedback and create a positive environment for growth,  Create career development plans; optimize organizational structure.
  • Enabler & Resource Management:
    • Ensure projects have the resources, tools, training, and processes for success.
    • Identify roadblocks and implement solutions to remove impediments.
    • Build strong relationships with support functions (Engineering, MC Technical Team, etc.) to promote collaboration.
  • Strategy & Process Standardization:
    • Contribute to planning with Customer Service and Materials teams, developing strategies to ensure material availability
    • Drive continuous improvement and adapt to changing business needs.
    • Implement standardized processes and hold teams accountable for performance.
  • Customer Relationships:
    • Build trust and act as a partner to customers.
    • Understand contract obligations and ensure compliance.
    • Communicate effectively, raise issues transparently, and influence without authority.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Develop and monitor KPIs to ensure targets are met.
    • Optimize inventory levels and forecast material consumption accurately.
    • Manage budgets responsibly and minimize freight costs through efficient planning.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in materials management or logistics leadership.
  • Strong people leadership skills with experience in coaching and team development.
  • Excellently demonstrated communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellently demonstrated customer service and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of contracts, KPIs, and fiscal responsibility in project environments.
  • Ability to travel – Domestic 30%

The pay range for this position is $111,282.00 - $156,774.00 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
