About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:
The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!
The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on photovoltaic inverters, medium-voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions, including automation.
We are looking for a Project Engineer. This position will be based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.
We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Medium Voltage Systems team.
The role will be hybrid, based in Wendell NC, with flexibility to work in-office and from home.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Analyze customer’s technical specifications, one line diagram and schematic diagram regarding the application of Siemens MV switchgear products along with associated protection and control systems and design appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner
- Work independently and/or lead a project team to create all documents for customer approval and manufacturing of Medium Voltage switchgears.
- Utilize the engineering configurator software to prepare one-line drawings, control schematics and bill of material with a high degree of accuracy.
- Take complete technical ownership of System Projects from inception to project handover as a dependable partner with the customers, while guiding a team of jr. engineers, designers and drafters.
- Provide factory support during the manufacture of your projects to ensure that the final deliverables are true to your design.
- Be a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge of the product and process to help others on the team achieve their goals.
- Lead efforts to improve team processes and tools to drive up overall team efficiency.
- Treat all Siemens information and customer information in a confidential manner.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
- 10+ years of proven experience working with the design/configuration of electrical power distribution products and systems.
- 5+ years of Electrical CAD design/drafting experience with protection and control or engineering firms
- Demonstrated experience mentoring jr. engineers with effective knowledge sharing techniques.
- Proven track record of innovative thinking and process improvement.
- Strong working knowledge of standard protection and control technologies used in medium voltage power distribution products with proven ability to share this knowledge with others. This may include knowledge of SCADA Systems, IEC61850 & DNP3.
- Ability to analyze customers’ technical specifications regarding the application of protection and control systems and apply appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner.
- Ability to read, understand and evaluate electrical schematics to identify errors or potential improvements.
- Experience working with and managing bills of material in an ERP system, preference given for experience with SAP.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done on time and with high quality.
- Ability to multitask and manage large workloads and business demands.
- Strong written, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in engineering, with extra consideration given if degree concentration is in the area of power systems.
- Preference given to experience with Engineering Base software.
- Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for MV Switchgear.
- Experience with electrical design for medium voltage switchgear, preference given to experience with Siemens switchgear and electrical products.
- Experience working with Salesforce.com

The pay range for this position is $102,459 - $175,644 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
