About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:

The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!

The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on photovoltaic inverters, medium-voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions, including automation.

We are looking for a Project Engineer / SME. This position will be based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.

Subject Matter Expert for our LV & MV switchgear product lines.

The role will be hybrid, based in Wendell NC, with flexibility to work in-office and from home.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Review and analyze customer’s technical needs for electrical equipment, performing as technical lead during initial feasibility, supporting sales and business development, coordinating and supporting design, submittal and obtaining approvals from customers, manufacturing support, FAT, integration with 3rd party products, installation and commissioning.
  • Coordinate with technical leads for with all the LV & MV Siemens Products Lines.
  • Ability to take complete technical ownership of Projects from inception to project handover as a dependable partner with the customers, while guiding a team of jr. engineers, designers and drafters.
  • Provide factory support during the manufacture of your projects to ensure that the final deliverables are true to your design.
  • Be a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge of the product and process to help others on the team achieve their goals.
  • Lead efforts to improve team processes and tools to drive up overall team efficiency.
  • Understand that job descriptions change over time. You are expected to maintain competence, awareness, and compliance with your job.
  • Treat all Siemens information and customer information in a confidential manner.
  • Understand and efficiently use Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, SIE OPS and other related reporting software.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 10+ years of proven experience working with the design/configuration of electrical power distribution products and systems. Preference given to experience with substation equipment including MV& LV switchgear.
  • 5+ years of Electrical CAD design/drafting experience with electrical products.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring jr. engineers with effective knowledge sharing techniques.
  • Proven track record of innovative thinking and process improvement.
  • Ability to analyze customers’ technical specifications regarding the application of protection and control systems and apply appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Ability to read, understand and evaluate electrical schematics to identify errors or potential improvements.
  • Experience working with and managing bills of material in an ERP system, preference given for experience with SAP.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in engineering is a plus with extra consideration given if degree concentration is in the area of power systems.
  • Proven ability to create, convert & modify drawings with AutoCAD Electrical or Engineering Base software. Preference given to experience with Engineering Base.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for MV Switchgear.
  • Experience with electrical design for electrical products.
  • Experience working with Salesforce.com

The pay range for this position is $122,951 - $210,773 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
