Position Overview:

As a Certified Welding Inspector, you will conduct a diverse range of inspections in the Carshell welding area to ensure train coaches are constructed to exact specifications. You will adhere to established inspection guidelines to perform routine visual Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), dimensional, and mechanical inspections on various welded and machined components and assemblies. Additionally, you will employ multiple non-destructive testing techniques to verify that welding meets stringent standards.

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 4:00pm – 2:30am

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Performs a wide variety of inspections in the Carshell welding and BG manufacturing areas. 
  • Follows general inspection guidelines to conduct routine visual CWI, dimensional, and mechanical inspections on a wide variety of welded and machined components and assemblies.
  • Utilizes one or more non-destructive testing techniques to verify acceptability of welded and machined components.
  • Ensures all work performed is to the correct configuration revision and within the requirements of applicable drawings, specifications and guidelines.
  • May conduct first article inspection of parts, assemblies, equipment and tooling and provide summary reports and diagnostics.
  • Ability to enter, maintain and extract information from Material Resource Planning, noncompliance tracking tools and Configuration management System.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • Willingness and ability to obtain and hold AWS Certified Visual Weld Inspector (CWI) Associate - or - VT Level II certification and certification in one or more non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques.
  • Ability to retrieve information from computer systems/databases and input data into electronic inspection systems.
  • Willingness to travel to Sacramento, California for training, including an initial trip of at least two weeks and additional travel as needed

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The base hourly rate range for this position in Lexington, NC is $30.00 – $40.87. The hourly rate may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 – $40.87 per hour. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
