As an intern with the Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting power distribution systems that keep the world running today, while also being exposed to our Future Grids technologies that are shaping the power systems of tomorrow - all within a collaborative, impact-driven environment.

We are seeking qualified candidates to join our Industrial Engineering Summer - Fall 2026 Co-op beginning May 18, 2026. This position will be based at our Wendell, North Carolina office location.

You’ll make an impact by:
  • Supporting manufacturing process upgrades to enable significant increases in factory production capacity.
  • Conducting industrial engineering analyses such as value stream analysis, layout modeling, material flow analysis, time studies, and industrial ergonomics.
  • Collecting, preparing, analyzing, and visualizing data to assess current-state performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Defining and developing improvement solutions, including workstation upgrades, tooling, jigs and fixtures, automation concepts, and visual controls.
  • Supporting solution implementation through vendor coordination, hands-on testing, validation, documentation, and sustainment activities.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams across operations, including production, supply chain, logistics, quality, EHS, and engineering.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Rising junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Candidates must be enrolled with the North Carolina State University co-op program and cannot graduate prior to December 2026.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) during the Summer and Fall 2026 semesters.
  • Prior work experience in an operations environment, such as a factory, assembly, machining, or warehouse setting.
  • Required proficiency with Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Eligible candidates must be located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC, as this role does not provide housing or relocation support.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with industrial engineering tools and methodologies such as value stream mapping, material flow analysis, time studies, root-cause analysis (e.g., Fishbone diagrams or Five Whys), and decision analysis.
  • Exposure to manufacturing systems or software such as SAP, Power BI, Visio, SimVSM, VisTABLE, Plant Simulation, Power Automate, Power Apps, or SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with workstation design, tooling upgrades, automation concepts, or IT/OT connectivity.
  • Experience communicating verbally and in writing with vendors, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to analyze complex systems involving material, information, and process flows.
  • Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to manage projects through analysis, solution definition, validation, and sustainment phases.

You’ll Benefit From
The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 per hour for first time Interns or $25.50 per hour for returning Interns. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
