Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Automation & Protection Products Technical promoter responsible for driving technical promotion, application support, and pre & Post sales engineering for substation automation and protection products. The role focuses on influencing customers, supporting sales, integrators & customers and delivering complete automation solutions using Siemens’ substation automation and protection platforms such as SICAM S8000, A8000 RTUs, SICAM Device Manager, SICAM SCC, SICAM PAS, Siprotec 5 and DIGSI 5 (SIP5).

Responsibilities

Siemens Automation & Protection Products

·       Provide application and technical support for substation automation and protection products.

·       Prepare complete automation solutions, including architecture design, product selection, and system proposals.

·       Develop BOQs, technical offers, and compliance documents for tenders and customer RFQs.

·       Configure and engineer substation automation systems using Siemens platforms such as:

SICAM S8000, A8000 RTUs, SICAM Device Manager, SIPROTEC 5, DIGSI 5, SICAM SCC,      SICAM PAS

·       Knowledge of SICAM 8 applications like Photovoltaic Plant Control (PPC), Dynamic Load Management (DLM), Load shedding (LS) and Self Optimising Grid (SOG)

·       Perform system testing, integration, and troubleshooting for automation and protection solutions.

·       Conduct customer workshops, demos, and technical sessions to promote automation and protection products.

·       Collaborate with sales teams to influence customer specifications, consultants, utilities, and EPCs.

·       Gather market intelligence and competition insights to support product positioning.

·       Configure SICAM A8000 and S8000 (SICAM Device Manager).

·       Basic system engineering using Siemens WinCC/ SCC for HMI/SCADA application.

·       Engineer and integrate substation automation using SICAM PAS.

·       Configure protection devices & Bay Control Units using DIGSI 5 (SIPROTEC 5 series).

·       Handle GOOSE engineering / configuration using DIGSI 5.

·       Logic Building with CAEx, ST, CFC etc

·       Network diagnostics using Wireshark (event tracing and protocol analysis)

·       Perform automation system FAT and Support site commissioning.

IEC 61850 Engineering

·       Create and manage IEC61850 system configuration (SCL, ICD, CID, SCD files).

·       Engineer GOOSE messaging, and MMS reporting.

·       Validate interoperability among multi‑vendor IEDs.

SCADA & Protocol Integration

·       Configure and troubleshoot substation communication protocols:

·       IEC61850

·       IEC60870‑5‑104

·       Modbus TCP/RTU

·       SNMP for network monitoring

Network Engineering

·       Routing & Switching: Design, configure, and troubleshooting L2/L3 networks for substations.

·       Design and Implement network redundancy using RSTP (Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol), PRP (Parallel Redundancy Protocol), and HSR (High‑availability Seamless Redundancy).

·       Manage VLANs, routing, switching, link aggregation, and network segmentation.

·       Conduct network testing, packet analysis, and root‑cause troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering from recognized university in (Electrical and Electronics or Electronics and Communication or equivalent)

·       5–8 years of experience working in substation automation or industrial communication networks.

·       Strong understanding of IEC standards: IEC 61850, MODBUS, IEC 104, IEC103, IEC101 etc.

·       Hands‑on experience with Siemens tools: SICAM Device Manager, A8000,DIGSI 5,WinCC, SICAM PAS, SICAM SCC, DIGSI 5.

·       Proficiency with network tools such as Wireshark and SNMP monitoring systems.

  • Experience with industrial network devices (RuggedCom Switches/Routers, Firewalls, etc.).

·       Experience in GCC utility or power transmission/distribution environments.

·       Knowledge of Automation & Protection philosophy of various utilitities in GCC countries.

·       Experience working in FAT/SAT, commissioning, and live substation environments.
