What will you do?

Spend your Co-op Term with a 35-person R&D team that's inventing the next generation of radar and ultrasonic instruments for industry. Our modern facility in Peterborough employs 300 people, including R&D, manufacturing and office staff. We are ISO 9001 certified team with employee-friendly policies and wellness programs. Peterborough is a pleasant city of 74,000 with a relaxed lifestyle and limitless options for summer and winter recreation. Join the Research and Development Department and help develop world-class industrial level measurement products.

The purpose of this Co-op is to Develop product & process applications knowledge through hands on support during product design and testing of ultrasonic & radar probes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design of mechanical hardware components under direct supervision from a member of the design team. Direct supervision may be reduced or eliminated over time requiring the student to perform design work, independently.
  • Provide hands on support during product testing in the mechanical test labs under direct supervision by a technician. Direct supervision may be reduced or eliminated over time requiring the student to perform tests, independently.
  • Perform mechanical design work, update drawings and Bill of Materials.
  • Conducting tests independently or with minimal supervision only.
  • Following test procedures and safety instructions.
  • Recording of test results electronically and manually.
  • Documenting of test results and observations.
  • Writing of technical notes or reports.
  • Secure and safe handling of probes and test equipment.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • Knowledge of mechanical design using NX CAD software.
  • Knowledge of working in a hardware design environment including 3D design, geometric tolerance, generating detailed & assembly drawings and BoMs.
  • Knowledge of working in a laboratory environment or test facility including set-up, use and maintenance of lab and test equipment.
  • Intermediate working knowledge with MS-Office: Excel & Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and cooperation when working with others to discuss and resolve testing and process related issues.
  • Diligence when working in a test facility following written and verbal instructions.
  • Knowledge of safety practices.
  • Concise & comprehensive written & verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work on-site at the Peterborough, ON location, five days per week.

Hourly rate is commensurate with experience, and ranges between $ 22.70 CAD - $ 26.40 CAD.
