This role is a key part of the Corporate Accounting team, reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting. It offers high ownership, visibility, and influence, focusing on ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely financial reporting across multiple business units. While working independently on core accounting tasks, the role involves significant coordination and collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders.
What will you do?
Core Accounting & Business Partnering:
- Collaborate on execution of month-end closing activities, financial statement analysis, and account reconciliation approval.
- Perform detailed balance sheet reviews for Business Units and Corporate Departments. Investigate variances in SAP and ensure complete and correct books and records.
- Gradually assume business partner responsibilities for assigned Corporate Departments and/or Business Units (BUs), providing technical accounting guidance under IFRS (e.g., revenue recognition, provisions, project accounting).
- Liaise with various internal departments on account reconciliation and cleanup
- Contribute to corporate accounting projects.
- Drive process improvement and automation initiatives.
Payroll & Benefits Accounting:
- Monitor balance and reconciliation of the Payroll, Taxes and Benefits accounts to ensure the books and records are accurately reflected on a monthly basis.
- Liaise with external payroll provider and HR.
- Assist stakeholders with technical issues related to SAP and GL reconciliations.
- Champion and foster an environment of continuous improvement with primary emphasis on process re-engineering and automation of existing procedures.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- CPA designation preferred
- Minimum 8 years experience in general accounting including period end close, reconciliations, journal entries, A/P, A/R, variance analysis, accruals, liaison with external auditors, etc.
- Demonstrated experience with SAP ERP
- Advanced Excel and visualization tools experience
- Experience with automation tools (PowerBI, Tableau) is required
- Business Process Improvement (BPI) mindset; demonstrated ability to identify opportunities to streamline and optimize existing processes in data collection, consolidation and reporting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with an ability to craft solutions for the business
- Strong analytical organizational multi-tasking and attention-to-detail skills
Salary is commensurate with experience, and ranges between $85,000 - $105,000 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus of 18% of base salary, based on Company performance metrics.
