Position Overview:
We are seeking a Welding Coordinator to take ownership of weld planning and execution across complex rolling stock systems—including locomotives, light rail vehicles, passenger coaches, and bogies.
This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you’ll bridge engineering, manufacturing, and quality to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant weld processes in a safety-critical environment.
This is a first shift position.
What your day may look like:
- Serve as the welding subject matter expert for rail vehicle manufacturing, owning weld planning, process execution, and technical decision-making to ensure quality, safety, and compliance.
- Develop, standardize, and maintain weld documentation, including Weld Plans, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs), while ensuring compliance with EN 15085 and AWS welding standards.
- Translate engineering drawings, models, and product specifications into efficient, production-ready welding strategies, tooling, fixtures, and weld cell layouts.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across manual, semi-automated, and automated welding processes to enhance productivity, quality, and operational performance.
- Partner with engineering, operations, suppliers, and leadership teams to support welder qualifications, inspection planning, supplier quality audits, first article inspections, and successful project execution from proposal through production.
This posting outlines the primary responsibilities of the role, but is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned in alignment with business needs.
To thrive in this role, you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related technical field
- AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification
- Strong knowledge of welding preparation, fabrication, and welding processes
- 3+ years of experience in complex, safety-critical manufacturing environments such as rail, aerospace, naval, automotive, or heavy equipment industries
- Proven ability to identify issues, implement corrective actions, and drive sustainable process improvements
- Demonstrated success leading projects and delivering results in challenging production environments
- Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and ROI analysis
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams ranging from shop-floor employees to senior leadership
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification or Six Sigma/Lean certification
- International Welding Engineer (IWE) or International Welding Technologist (IWT) certification
- Master’s degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Bilingual proficiency in English and German or English and Spanish
- Experience utilizing MRP and ERP systems in a manufacturing environment
