This position is responsible for leading all engineering activities related to product maintenance, product robustness, certification compliance, and Design-to-Cost (DTC) initiatives within all our Current Products. This role ensures the long-term reliability, quality, competitiveness, and regulatory compliance of the product portfolio while driving continuous improvements in product performance, manufacturing efficiency, and cost optimization.

The position leads a multidisciplinary engineering organization of approximately 45-50 employees and serves as the key interface between the manufacturing site and global Engineering, Product Management, Quality, Marketing, and R&D teams located in the United States and Germany.

This Role is accountable for sustaining engineering performance, execution of product changes, certification maintenance, customer issue resolution, and deployment of strategic engineering initiatives aligned with global business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Product Maintenance & Sustaining Engineering
  • Own the lifecycle management of assigned circuit breaker product families.
  • Ensure product continuity, reliability, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead engineering investigations and corrective actions for field quality issues and manufacturing challenges.
  • Manage engineering changes, product modifications, component obsolescence, and supplier-driven changes.
  • Support manufacturing plants in resolving technical issues impacting safety, quality, delivery, and cost.

Product Robustness & Reliability
  • Develop and execute strategies to continuously improve product robustness and reliability.
  • Analyze field returns, warranty data, customer complaints, and quality metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Lead technical reviews, design validation activities, and reliability assessments.
  • Coordinate failure analysis and implementation of design enhancements.
  • Establish preventive actions to reduce quality defects and improve product performance.

Product Certification & Compliance
  • Ensure products maintain compliance with applicable international standards and certifications, including:
    • IEC Standards
    • UL Standards
    • CSA Standards
    • ANSI Standards
    • Regional regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate product certification renewals, updates, audits, and testing activities.
  • Act as primary interface with certification agencies and testing laboratories.
  • Assess engineering changes for certification impact and ensure appropriate qualification activities are completed.
  • Maintain certification documentation and technical records.

Design-to-Cost (DTC) Leadership
  • Lead product cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for material optimization, design simplification, and manufacturing efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with Procurement, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Global Engineering teams to achieve annual productivity objectives.
  • Build and maintain a DTC project pipeline aligned with business targets.
  • Track project execution, savings realization, and performance metrics.

Engineering Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of approximately 45-50 engineers, technicians, and engineering specialists.
  • Establish clear objectives, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Develop technical competencies and succession plans within the organization.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and career development planning.
  • Foster employee engagement and support talent retention initiatives.

Global Collaboration
  • Serve as the primary engineering liaison between the manufacturing site and Headquarters Engineering organizations in the United States and Germany.
  • Ensure alignment of local engineering activities with global product strategies.
  • Participate in global engineering reviews, steering committees, and leadership meetings.
  • Drive effective communication and coordination across multiple international teams and time zones.
  • Support global projects involving new technologies, product enhancements, and process standardization.

Strategic & Operational Management
  • Develop departmental objectives aligned with site and global business goals.
  • Manage engineering budgets, resources, and project execution.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) related to quality, cost, delivery, productivity, and certification compliance.
  • Support operational excellence, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, quality systems, and safety requirements.


What will you need to succeed?
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration (MBA), or related discipline preferred.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience within electrical products, power distribution, industrial automation, or related industries.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing large engineering teams.
  • Proven experience in circuit breakers, protection devices, switchgear, or electrical distribution products.
  • Strong background in sustaining engineering, product maintenance, or product lifecycle management.
  • Experience with international certification requirements and testing processes.
  • Demonstrated success leading Design-to-Cost and productivity initiatives.
  • Experience working within a global matrix organization.
