We embrace change and work with curious minds re-inventing the future of work. Join us and let us focus together on what’s truly important: making lives better with new ideas and the latest technology around the world.

About the role: R&D Team Leader- Agentic AI

Are you an entrepreneurial technology leader with a passion for building high-performing R&D teams and turning advanced AI concepts into scalable industrial platforms?

We are seeking an outstanding  R&D Team Leader to join Siemens Digital Industries Operations Software, to lead an Agentic AI team, based in Kitchener, Ontario – shipping real agent capabilities fast, while staying tightly aligned with the shared platform architecture and standards set across the program.

In this leadership role, you will lead and build the Canada’s Agentic AI team, and drive the development of secure, scalable, customer-ready platforms and shape the future of industrial AI.

Siemens Digital Industries Operations Software is a suite of integrated digital solutions to engineer, simulate and operate manufacturing operations across industries. Operations Software includes our product portfolio in manufacturing engineering (COMOS, Tecnomatix, NX CAM, ...) & production operations (Win CC, Scada, PCS 7 / neo, Opcenter, Insights Hub, ...). The portfolio helps organizations across many different industries to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance decision-making by providing real-time visibility and control across manufacturing and business processes.

Formula 1 cars, ships, mobile phones, space exploration vehicles, food & beverages, pharmaceuticals and many of the other objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and produced using our software.

We're redefining the industrial world using data and AI to make production: Agile, Adaptive, Autonomous. Eliminate productivity boundaries for today’s and tomorrow’s production operation. Join our mission to build the most comprehensive next generation AI-native Industrial Operations Software portfolio as the new operation system for industry in the age of AI. With us you have the chance to now apply AI to where it really matters: In the physical world of an industrial production and engineering of real things.

As part of Siemens Operations Software (OPS-SW), the Technology, Data Fabric & Agentic AI organization provides the technology foundation that enables the next generation of industrial software. Its portfolio includes AI Production & Engineering Systems, Data Fabric, Agentic AI frameworks, connectivity platforms, semantic data models, cloud-native architectures, and industrial AI services that power autonomous, scalable, and intelligent operations across the OPS-SW portfolio.

What will you do?

  • Lead and grow the team – recruit, manage, and develop a team of AI/ML engineers and developers; own delivery, team health, and performance
  • Ship agent capabilities – drive the design, build, and delivery of specific agent capabilities from prototype to production-ready features
  • Deliver against the system – build on the shared frameworks, APIs, and orchestration patterns defined by the R&D Leader; contribute back improvements rather than diverging
  • Stay aligned, move fast – translate the global platform roadmap into a local team backlog and remove blockers so the team ships without waiting on the wider program
  • Stay hands-on – participate in architecture discussions, review code and technical designs, and make sound day-to-day technical decisions with your team
  • Own quality and reliability – ensure your team's work meets shared standards for agent communication, data handling, error recovery, monitoring, and observability
  • Bridge research and production – help your team apply modern AI research (LLMs, agent frameworks, orchestration patterns) to reliable industrial systems
  • Collaborate across sites – work closely with the Global R&D Leader, Project Leads, and peer teams (Erlangen, Fürth, and beyond) to keep one coherent system, not disconnected experiments
  • Represent the team locally – act as the technical and people anchor for the Canadian team; connect with local talent, partners, and the wider Siemens network, with opportunities to extend leadership influence across other Canadian R&D teams.

What you will bring:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in Engineering Management, Technical Leadership, or Team Leadership roles in software, AI, robotics, industrial technology, or platform engineering.
  • Lead engineering teams – you've managed and grown software/ML teams that ship, and you know how to balance delivery pressure with sustainable team health
  • Have strong technical depth – you understand LLMs and what makes agentic AI different from traditional automation; you can engage credibly in architecture and code-level discussions
  • Deliver in fast environments – you're comfortable with ambiguity and rapid iteration, and you can create structure and predictability for your team where there is none
  • Build on shared foundations – you know how to align to a common platform and standards without letting your team become a bottleneck or a silo
  • Lead through technical credibility – engineers respect you because you understand the work and make trade-offs they trust
  • Balance innovation and pragmatism – you know when to try cutting-edge tools and when to pick boring, proven technology
  • Communicate across audiences – you can align your team, report up to leadership, and coordinate across distributed sites and time zones

What sets you apart:

  • Experience building agentic AI systems, multi-agent frameworks, or LLM-based orchestration platforms
  • Background in industrial automation, manufacturing systems, or industrial IoT
  • Track record delivering 0-to-1 products that scaled
  • Deep hands-on expertise in Python, distributed systems, cloud platforms, and modern AI/ML tooling
  • Experience with open-source AI frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, Nemo Platform, etc.) and a clear view of their strengths and limitations
  • Previous leadership roles in R&D, platform engineering, or technical team management
