We’re looking for a Management Accountant to deliver an effective financial and management accounting function including management, reporting and the continuous improvement of processes and controls within our Rolling Stock business unit.

Our Rolling Stock and Customer Service keeps trains running safely and reliably every day. The business delivers expert maintenance, technical support and digital solutions across the full lifecycle of rail fleets, helping customers maximise performance, availability and passenger satisfaction.


This role is based in Northampton, with a requirement to be in the office 2 days per week to collaborate closely with the team.


You‘ll make a difference by ….

  • Monitoring, maintaining and reviewing of financial records
  • Manages the financial analysis and research of the business issues in order to provide top management with financial data and business advice
  • Manages the development of major expense projections on the basis of prior budgets and expenditures as well as future business requirements
  • Performs accounting activities such as account reconciliation and preparation of journal entries
  • Prepares and maintains ledger accounts and related activities for the production of financial statements and fiscal reports
  • Reporting of RS and CS month end Financial results for review and approval by Finance Director
  • Production and development of management reports for Finance Director
  • Responsible for the accounting, forecasting and reporting of support functions cost centres
  • Providing finance partnering support to heads of department
  • Providing support to Financial Controller for ad hoc tasks and special projects
  • Providing support to project accountants on general project accounting SAP issues
  • Ongoing improvement of financial processes and procedures in the context of the job and financial activities, including timesheet process.
  • Involvement and support on aspects of financial controlling
  • Review of balance sheet & income statement
  • Review & analysis of costs pertaining to specific cost centres
  • Participation and co-ordination of ICFR related activities


Your success will be grounded by …

  • Suitable Accounting qualification – or progress towards one
  • Demonstrate relevant accounting & financial experience 
  • Solid accounting skills with ability to demonstrate an understanding and interpretation of key financial statements 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office with excellent Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Self-disciplined with strong time management ability 
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative with flexible and proactive approach to work 
  • Good working knowledge of SAP desirable
