The Electrical Products (EP) Business Unit offers a full range of low-voltage power distribution and control products that deliver safe, reliable, and efficient electrical solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial markets.

We are looking for an Automation Engineer to join our team! This position will be based onsite at our Roebuck, SC manufacturing site.

This role will be instrumental in supporting the development and integration of manufacturing systems, including robotic cells, AMRs (autonomous mobile robots), conveyance systems, and assembly lines, ensuring alignment with company goals for Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing initiatives.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Design, develop, and implement automation control systems for manufacturing and industrial applications, including safety systems (light curtains, interlocks, relays, emergency stops).
  • Manage project deliverables, budgets, and schedules within the controls engineering scope, providing clear technical direction, risk mitigation strategies, and progress reporting to stakeholders.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs across multiple platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), and develop standardized PLC programs and control architectures aligned with corporate automation standards for code reusability and compliance.
  • Design, program, and implement advanced control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Ignition, FactoryTalk), ensuring diagnostic clarity and performance requirements.
  • Integrate and optimize robotic systems, vision inspection equipment, and automated material handling solutions (AMR/AGV), collaborating with cross-functional teams for seamless production integration.
  • Create and review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using CAD tools; lead design reviews, FATs, SATs, and site commissioning activities to validate operational and performance standards.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, delegate tasks, provide technical guidance and feedback, while driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, improve OEE, and enhance process traceability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or Control Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, or system integration.
  • Experience in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI/SCADA development (Ignition, FactoryTalk, Wonderware, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles and familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent.
  • Experience leading and developing teams of engineers, including coaching, mentoring, and fostering professional growth.
  • Knowledge of vision systems (Cognex, Keyence) and industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for equipment installation, commissioning, or vendor support.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment within the United States without the need for current or future employer - sponsored work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, or Control Engineering
  • Experience with industrial robotics and AMR systems integration is highly desirable.
  • Project management experience or certification (e.g., PMP or equivalent)
  • Experience implementing AMR/AGV and robotic cells in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Basic knowledge of data acquisition, MES, or factory network integration.

The pay range for this position is $102,459 - $175,644 annually. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
