Data Engineer - SQL & Analytics Architecture
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong SQL expertise and analytics architecture experience to design, build, and maintain scalable data solutions on Azure. This role focuses on data modeling, analytical database design, and performance optimization, ensuring data is reliable, accessible, and ready for reporting and business insights.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys working close to the data layer, designing architecture, and solving complex data challenges. The role sits between data engineering and analytics engineering, with a strong focus on Azure SQL-based platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain Azure SQL Database solutions supporting analytical and reporting workloads
- Build and optimize data models, schemas, and SQL queries for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Develop and maintain data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and validating structured data
- Analyze data usage patterns to continuously improve database architecture and performance
- Partner with analytics and business teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Support data quality, validation, and reconciliation across source and downstream systems
- Troubleshoot performance issues and implement indexing and optimization strategies
- Contribute to documentation, coding standards, and data engineering best practices
- Participate in code reviews and collaborate within an Agile environment
- Support production deployments and ongoing enhancements
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, or Data-Focused Software Developer
- Advanced hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database or Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Strong SQL expertise (complex joins, CTEs, window functions, query optimization)
- Experience designing analytical and reporting data models
- Solid understanding of relational database architecture and data modeling principles
- Experience working with Azure data platform
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Advanced English communication skills (spoken and written)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Azure Data Factory
- Experience supporting large datasets and historical data
- Exposure to Azure DevOps
- Experience working in regulated or audit-sensitive environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
