Senior Front-end Developer – Future Grid Lab (FGL)
About Future Grid Lab (FGL)
Future Grid Lab is an incubator for new tools, digital solutions, and pilot technologies shaping the future of grid operations and energy systems. Our mission is to rapidly test, validate, and operationalize innovative concepts that accelerate the energy transition. As part of this dynamic environment, you will work across different frontend applications, frameworks, software prototypes, and technologies —helping ideas move from the design phase to the user interface.
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Senior Frontend Developer, you work closely with product and design to implement a new design system within our core application. You translate high-fidelity designs from Figma into robust, accessible, and performant frontend components, ensuring they integrate cleanly with our existing architecture.
Because our team is an early adopter of this design system, you provide additional quality control—reviewing component implementations, identifying gaps between design and code, and ensuring consistency, usability, and technical correctness. You act as a primary front-end contact point with an external design partner, helping validate deliverables, resolve implementation issues, and, where needed, complete or refine component implementations directly in our codebase.
How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities of role)
- Implement and maintain a new design system within a single core application, translating Figma designs into high-quality, accessible frontend components.
- Extend and refine reusable UI components, ensuring consistency, theming, and alignment between design and implementation.
- Provide additional quality control for early design system adoption, reviewing implementations and identifying gaps or issues.
- Act as the primary frontend contact point with an external design partner, helping review deliverables and resolve implementation discrepancies.
- Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineers to deliver well-integrated frontend features.
- Develop maintainable, well-tested code and support usability, performance, and stability in pilot and experimental environments.
What You Bring (required qualification and skill sets)
- 7+ years of experience in Frontend development.
- Strong proficiency in modern TypeScript and CSS, with experience in component-based frontend frameworks.
- Proven experience translating Figma designs into production-ready UI components and working with design systems, themes, and tokens.
- Strong experience with CI/CD technologies (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
- Strong programming skills in at least two modern languages (e.g., Javascript, TypeScript, Go, C#).
- Ability to work in agile, cross‑functional teams.
- Strong problem‑solving mindset and ability to operate independently.
- Curiosity and passion for new technologies, tools, and development practices.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality, especially at the design-to-code boundary.
- Capable of working in a dynamic, experimental environment with shifting priorities.
- Experience contributing to or maintaining shared component libraries or design systems.
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and frontend performance optimization.
- Experience using AI agents or LLM based automation to accelerate software development or operations-based automation to accelerate software development or operations.
- Knowledge of energy systems, grid technologies, or industrial protocols (not required, but beneficial).
