Siemens Electrification & Automation invites you to join our rapidly growing Power Academy in Wendell, NC, and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of electrical power grids.

We are looking for a Power Protection Trainer. This position will be based in Wendell, NC.

As a Power Protection Trainer, you will design, own, and deliver high-impact training that empowers customers and internal teams to confidently and successfully operate Siemens protection solutions. This is a hands-on, visible role with substantial autonomy: you’ll lead course design, own delivery quality, and shape learning paths to meet our customers’ training needs.

Training is primarily delivered at the Wendell Power Academy. Occasional customer-site and virtual sessions will be required, with an estimated 5-10% travel required. This role is ideal for a technical educator who is energized by developing others, wants to scale their impact, and helps shape a growing training and business organization.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Training Delivery: Deliver high-quality, instructor-led, and hands-on lab training on Siemens protection relays, DIGSI tools, and protection & automation fundamentals.
  • Course Development: Create and maintain modular courseware (slides, labs, simulations, quizzes, and job-aids) for classroom, virtual, and blended learning.
  • Hands-on Learning: Deliver high-quality, instructor-led, and hands-on lab training on Siemens protection relays, DIGSI tools, and protection & automation fundamentals.
  • Customer Engagement: Understand customer needs and tailor training programs to meet specific requirements, ensuring that participants gain relevant knowledge applicable to their job roles.
  • Collaborate with Experts: Regularly connect with Product Lifecycle Managers, engineering, services, and sales to keep content aligned with product updates and customer needs.
  • Customer Site Training: Offer training sessions at customer sites, including travel to different locations as needed. Today, an estimated 5-10% of travel.
  • Feedback and Assessment: Regularly review participant feedback and training KPIs (satisfaction, retention, pass rates, field impact) and proactively update course materials, labs, and delivery methods to improve training quality and outcomes continuously.
  • Mentor and Coach: Prepare substitute trainers or subject-matter experts supporting training activities.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest advancements in power distribution technology, industry standards, and best practices to ensure the training content remains current and relevant.

Basic Qualifications:

The Power Protection Trainer role requires a combination of technical expertise, teaching skills, and strong interpersonal abilities.

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Technical Proficiency: Deep technical expertise in high- and medium-voltage protection technology and principles (protection & automation fundamentals, relay coordination, fault analysis). Proficiency with Siemens DIGSI tools and secondary test equipment (Omicron, Doble, Megger), and practical lab experience expected.
  • Passion for Developing Others: Strong instructional design and facilitation skills: can translate complex technical concepts into clear, role-based learning outcomes.
  • Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and active listening skills.
  • Customer-focused and Adaptable: Skilled at customizing learning for diverse audiences and operational contexts.
  • Problem-solving and Troubleshooting: Diagnose participant issues and convert them into practical lab scenarios.
  • Organizational skills and self-direction: Plan multi-course schedules, manage materials, and deliver with autonomy.
  • Digital/AI Curious: Willing to experiment with digital learning tools and help expand e-learning or blended offerings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with IEEE industry standards and regulations related to power protection and distribution.

The pay range for this position is $89,670 - $153,720 annually with a target incentive of of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
